In the world of money magic, you’re not short on options for quick changing visual metamorphoses of a one bill into another. But the magic usually stops there. Very few have offered a solution to multiple changes, and let’s be real with each other for just a minute; if you really could magically change one bill into another would you honestly stop with just turning a single into a twenty or a hundred? Where’s the buildup in that? Mark Lavelle has entered his opinion in the matter and it’s an opus of fast changing money tricks. Get set for Changeling ODO.

Receiving Changeling ODO is a bit of a let down upon unboxing. It’s a non-assuming little folding card with the gimmick inside. No DVD either, all your video instructions are online. The gimmicks are predictable for this kind of effect, and upon first glance, and after having watched the trailer video, I suspected some assembly would be required. And Holy Jesus the construction on this gimmick is intense! My only advice is to watch the video thru at least once before you go cutting stuff up. This is not a quick build. It’s not a complicated build, but you will need to pay attention to details. Once completed though, you’ll have a gimmick that should last you for quite a long time. If you use a more durable kind of money, like the plastic sort found in Canadian or European bills then it will probably last you a lifetime.

Performing with the Changeling ODO gimmick is easy enough. It does what it needs to do, and it does it well enough that you don’t have to worry about the gimmick failing in performance and exposing itself. At the end of the trick you’re clean, and can hand the bill out or spend it as you see fit. Angles are nearly nonexistent, and practicality makes this a workers dream. Reset’s pretty quickly making this a fine option for walk around.

Overall I’d say that if you’ve got the patience to put into building the gimmick then you’ve got yourself a fine piece of magic. If you like visual close up money magic, then I recommend you check out Changeling ODO!

Hi William - have you actually made up the gimmick and used it? I have the original Changeling and love it and now I have Changeling ODO and have made up my first gimmick using Canadian currency. So far so good. But - nowhere on the instructions does he tell how to fold and attach the regular final bill. I have watched the download 3 times and all I see is him quickly folding the final bill and inserting it into the gimmick - no details or explanation - and I can't work it out - it's too fast on the demo. Maybe I'm missing something when I watch. Marc says on the download to contact him by email or using social media and so far I have tried a PM on the Café, 2 emails to 2 different email addresses, a message on Facebook Messenger and on Instagram - but no response.

Regards,

Ed

I spent a lot of time constructing this gimmick (US Bills) only to find that at the end of the tutorial I was left wondering how to apply it to an un-gimmicked bill and actually DO SOMETHING WITH IT ! Frustrated beyond belief !

The review rating is MUCH too generous IMO. I'd give it a 2 tops.

Here is another review:

REVIEW: Changeling ODO by Marc Lavelle and Titanas Magic
RATING: 6 out of 10

FULL REVIEW:
Changeling ODO is a gimmicked bill switch in which you can change a bill three times and then hand out the final bill. This Titanas Magic product by Marc Lavelle costs $34.95 and will require a significant amount of arts and crafts time.

With your purchase you will get a folding card that contains a tiny envelope that holds some specially sourced materials (likely difficult to find in these exact specifications). You also get a link to three videos that is password protected. The first video is the Changeling ODO video which is an hour and fifteen minutes long (painfully long and difficult to watch), you get the original Changeling video that has various routines (this video is an hour and thirty five minutes) and you get a five minute routine using the ODO gimmick.

As referenced above, the ODO video is extremely slow. Lavelle, takes you through the construction process with UK bills only. Well, UK bills are different sizes and I am American. I use United States currency and found it a bit difficult to follow. The construction process for me was very frustrating and I watched the video twice. But, if the trick was sold with a ready-made gimmick, it would have cost double the price. For each of the bills that you display, which are part of the gimmick, you will destroy that bill. So, to be super clear, if you change a $1 into a $5 into a $10, you just killed…$16 dollars! The alternative if you start with a blank piece of paper and draw a $1 bill on it so it is obviously fake. You then turn that into a real $1 bill and then turn that into a fake $100 which you can create on a blank piece of paper. I kind of like that better because it has a comedic twist to it. The video does not have any live performances on it and I thought that was a significant negative issue. I also found that the gimmick talks a bit took much so you should not perform this in a very quiet space. This is a great piece for restaurants. I also was a bit perplexed on how all the pieces fit together once construction was done! The original Changeling video contains some great ideas for routines, but because I had to watch the first video more than once (did I mention that it was long) I was somewhat impatient to watch Lavelle’s routines video.

It should be noted that you can create the ODO gimmick with paper or plastic currency as per Lavelle. The gimmick cannot be handed out, but with a bit of a ditch and misdirection, you can hand out a bill at the end.

OK, now that I got that out of the way, if you get past the construction and the videos, you end up with a pretty cool gimmick. And although this may take you a few attempts, once it is right, it is awesome.

With the Changeling ODO gimmick you can change one bill into a second and then into a third and hand it out. It is killer visual. I have much respect for Lavelle for coming up with this super-clever gimmick.
