Here's a hypothetical for all you coin workers. Let's say you were going to get a tackle box and fill to the gills with nothing but gaffed coins. Money was no object! What would you put in the box? I'll start us off.

I have a "Flambeau" clear fishing tackle tray (8 1/2" X 14" X 1 7/8" deep) with several plastic dividers to place among the 4 rows. As I have been helping 2 other magician friends go thru a recently deceased friend's estate, sorting, identifying, trying to price to sell for his wife to recover "some" of the money he spent on magic over the years, It got me to thinking about how "MY WIFE" would deal with my stuff. My children have no interest in magic and no one in the family would know where to start. So... I started my own "Sorting, Storing, Pricing and identifying system". This Tray holds a ton of my coin sets and a few coin magic related items like Nest of Boxes Brass, Okito, Slot, Boston boxes, "Bob's Box", bang rings and many many various coins between dime size and half dollar size. Once I sorted it and got the dividers to where I wanted them in order to store things with other items that can be used together (or just make sense), I laid paper over the top and made a "Map" like you get with a box of chocolates. I am also working on a corresponding spreadsheet that will match where the directions are and the price "paid" as well as a fair market "used price (to kind of expect) in the event I pass before I am ready. I have 2 other plastic tool sorting containers (from a set of 4 or 5 plastic storage boxes from the tool section at Walmart for under $10). One contains all my Dollar size coins, gaffs and accessories and the other is full of jumbo coins and assorted coin purses plus some misc coin stuff. Both of these are also "Mapped". So... back to your original question, My answer to "What would you add?" is "EVERYTHING". Add the fact that money honestly is an object, this is stuff I have scrimped and saved for over 20+ years and it all was purchased for a reason at the time. I also am a believer of always being "Over Prepared" I would rather have it and not use it than need/want it during a spontaneous (or planned) gig and not have it. The stipulation of money not being an object or even the amount of space you can put in a tackle box (which can be very tiny or HUGE) will probably get all kinds of answers of "Everything". But are you really asking What essentials would you want on you at all times? It may make for a more narrow scope of answers. Similar questions have been asked over the years along the lines of "favorite" or "must have" gaffs and the general consensus usually is a close race between C/S coin, Expanded Shell and sometimes a flipper or a split coin pop in higher on the list. There are also many nice gaff sets like a Hopping Half set or a Triception set that score high simply because the gaffs included can be mixed and matched with other coins for even more routines than the ones the set was "made for" (the bang for your buck theory).

Hey Poof... I have 15 trays similar to yours, all filled with gaffed coins. And I still have more that aren't in trays! This is getting ridiculous.

I second Poof here, but will even step it up further. If money really is no object, I'd want at least two of everything! Not as a backup, but because it could be cool to do lots of interesting things without crossing hands. I mean, think of the effects you could do with two Triple Threats!
And if that's the case, then I have a bunch of neat ideas that I could get done custom, just to experiment with, that I'd never afford/spend on, normally. That said, your subject is Coin workers toolbox which makes me wonder if you want to restrict things just to "workers", whatever that means by your definition. In which case I still agree with Poof about the most common/impactful gaffs. |

I guess the purpose of the thread is to find out about all the interesting gaffs out there. If you mention something I don't know, I look it up on Google. It's fun learning about coins and coin magic.
