Effect: A narrow tray or stage is displayed along with a glass of milk and a tube. The milk can be seen to jiggle and move within the glass. A tube is show empty and the magician covers the glass of milk with the tube. Magic words are called out or gestures are used to cause the glass to vanish. The tube is lifted, the glass I gone, the tube shown empty. As the magician moves the tray, it is seen that the glass is simply hanging from the bottom of the tray.
The magician goofed it up!! Promising to explain how it should have happened, The trick is demonstrated once again. When the audience wants to see the back of the tray, the magician finally gives in and removes the curtain, only to reveal there is no glass of milk hanging from the try. The glass of milk has completely vanished. The End! At this point, it the glass can be reproduced from the empty tube if desired, depending on the magician and how long he wished to carry on the effect. Apparatus: The Vanishing Glass of Milk or Back Stage as some people refer to it, is a modern classic magic effect. I believe the late great inventor, craftsman, and magician Jack Hughes of England created it originally. I have seen it on the Abbott’s Magic display shelves for over 50 years. Only recently, they have removed it from their website and catalog. Other dealers make a version of this effect as well. I have obtained the latest offering by Bazar de Magia. The tray is made out heavy gauge steel expertly made, quality I have never seen in magic apparatus in my life. Included is there new design and very unique plastic glass, never before created in magic that I am aware of from my experience. The heavy gauge aluminum tube (I assume because a magnet does not attract to it) is expertly made with rolled ends, and is very deceptive, when compared to any of the other versions previously offered by other magic manufactures over the years. The tray and tube, has some kind of thick coating, that is not just paint. It will last a long time, as it bonded to the metal on the tray and tube. I don’t know the process, but it looks amazing, and looks like it will take some rough handling, as some props do, during transportation to and from shows. This is a no mess liquid version, that makes it good for traveling to your shows. Just prepare at home, and use it all day long, for multiple engagements. The “stage” is decorated with a curtain that is nicely made and magnetically attaches to the tray/stage quickly and easily. So much better then I have seen other use Velcro, and it was troubling to work with while trying to set up at the shows. This is expensive due to the materials used, and the quality of the construction. Suggested retail price is $99.00. World Magic Shop recently reviewed this product and was very enthusiastic in their review and comments. Check it out # 302 show on October 24, 2017: Last review on the show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=2&v=iNR22Xj0Tq4 The milk has to be prepared, so you do have to obtain some Milk Tex, and a tool from the hobby shop or pharmacy. Highly recommend this if you are doing stage/standup shows, great for children and adults as well. |

How does it compare to the other well known version ?

It seems like a nice effect. So I'm taking it that if you don't have some sort of craft applicator, you can't really add the tex milk, correct?

Do you need to prepare the glass in every performace? Or once you prepare it and seal it it´s done?
Thanks. |

If you use Tex mix, as I have posted several times on the Café, I have a mixture, that is over 10 years old, and it is still not separated. I used distilled water to prepare it. Other brands I have used over the last 50 years have always separated, and left a residue on the prop, that is very difficult to remove, even with all the suggestions I have found, do not seem to work, for me anyway. My experience with OOM, is that most of them evaporate some over time in the prop. This would then have to be topped at some intervals, most likely. Suggestion in the instructions indicate a seal, that would require changing the solution periodically. |

Any replacement for the glass?
The trick plays well , but in a practice session the glass fall to the floor and it is broken. Anyone knows if this glass has the same measures? Because I know it uses the same principle. http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S20213 Thank you. |

Oh Bummer, the glass of milk is not permanently sealed?? When I saw the demo video I could tell it was not a real glass of milk and assumed it was one of the sealed type which would have been AWESOME!! But sounds like it's not sealed and needs to have the milk added as well as emptied and cleaned after performances (or every little while)?? Is that really true?

There has been a sealed milk pitcher glass on and off the magic market for years. I am told it is made in Germany. After a year or so, it evaporates even in a total sealed plastic glass. Taking that into consideration, sealing does not prevent evaporation of liquid in plastic. I am not a chemist, but it seems plastic does not seal as some may think.

Does anyone know how the Bazar de Magia version compares to the Proline or FAB Magic versions of this trick? I cannot really tell from photos which looks and works better.

No one can do a comparison for you unless the own both, and that is usually very rare for a person to own both props. Also being this in an open forum and not the secret section, nothing can be discussed further then I and others have given in the above comments. |
