New to coins
Just wondered from those with experience Which is the best UK split coin to get Best as in works/looks correct both sides And best as in (along looking correct in size both sides) has the best contrast (like silver one side, copper or pound <gold> the other) Obviously would need to get most recent versions (so new pound, if that was one side) Final question... any recommendations as to who makes them well/best I realise these are possibly dumb or it depends questions As I said I'm totally new to coins Effect is a simple one... take two coins one being this coin, other being a real one of the other side. Behind my back I select one (the split coin) Now I can open it to look like either coin Any help or abuse most welcome X |

No, this question doesn't really make a lot of sense. Most traditional split coins don't have something on the "inside". Johnny Wong started making ones that did, but they don't look great - it's just a sticker, and that's because it's only meant to be flashed briefly, not handed out (because it's a split coin, silly!).
I don't think he makes any in euro or UK coins, though I guess you could just get one, and add stickers yourself. The only craftsman I know of that makes a split coin that looks right on both sides is John Jurney -- his Coin Coalition (https://www.jjmagiccoins.com/home/shop/uncategorized/jjs-coin-coalition/). But that fails your other requirement of being UK coins. That all said, I'm not really clear on what the effect is that you're going for. You laid out the beginning, but not what happens. Could you do something similar with a Scotch & Soda (or Coin Unique)? Or maybe just a regular old Copper/Silver? Those are much easier to find in UK currencies. |

I presumed these were common coin gaffs
As I said I am new - so probably not I will try to explain the effect... I take out a handful of change... I select two coins [one *the normal coin* I never actually use, I'm just pretending to have a choice of that coin and th gaff, the normal coin is the same as one of the sides of the gaff - the side that is not showing when selected] So pretend I have a gaff that is £1 on one side and 1p on the other I show a handful of change and select the gaff £1 side up, and a real 1p I get rid of the rest of the change Now behind my back I will select one of the coins [either the 1p, or the £1] Really I will always have the gaff selected in my closed fist The spec can pick either coin - and I can open my hand either way up and always show the spec to be correct [or incorrect] however I wish So the gaff should have good contrast [one side a silver coin one side a copper one] and look good I don't know what you mean by having anything 'inside' - what would need to be inside [?] I just need one side to be [for example] £1 and the other 1p Like I said I presumed these might be common - but maybe they don't exist [?] If they do - as per my OP Any ideas on the best denominations [for contrast] and for looking real both sides And who would be the best person to get them from |

Hi there.
What you're looking for is a copper/silver coin. A split coin is a different type of gimmick all together. A 10p/2p version is widely available from UK stockists. Don't let certain reviews put you off - the coin works perfectly well in actual performance. I have one and use it regularly. It will work very well for your trick (and many others). Jim |

Yup, definitely a C/S. Some manufacturers will have sleight variations in quality (or sound), but there are also some manufacturers who only deal in certain types of coins, so you'll have less choice in UK currencies. Either way, the coins are not terribly expensive, so just find one that has the two coins you're looking for. Tango would be a good choice.
And yes, a "split coin" is something entirely separate, but I will not reveal it here if you're unfamiliar with it. It has an "inside" - while a Copper/Silver does not. Enjoy your new coin! |

Hi again.
Warpedmagic and Saturnmagic both carry them. I got mine from one of these guys, but can't remember which. Both are around the tenner mark. These differ from the traditional copper/silver gaffs as the coins are slightly different sizes. There was a thread on here somewhere where a couple of folk were slating these coins. If you come across the thread don't let their comments put you off - I can only assume those guys didn't actually perform with them. I use mine in a Spellbound routine, Copper/silver transpositions, and another little routine of my own - the coin works perfectly well. Jim |

I did look [already at Saturn] but couldn't find [and Tango] ones that were UK coins
I will email and ask them Thanks again |

I think the 10p/2p would be closer in size, and still have good contrast.
This one should do the trick: http://www.propdog.co.uk/copper-silver-10p-2p And is a neat method for doing it, from the description. This one, too, and it's cheaper: https://www.warpedmagic.co.uk/products/c......ed-magic Looking, it seems like tango only has it as part of the hopping half (you get the C/S coin plus some more stuff) like here: https://www.saturnmagic.co.uk/saturn-mag......-2p.html or https://www.saturnmagic.co.uk/saturn-mag......-2p.html but then it's a lot more expensive, but a great value. Your call on what you want. |
