Got an email from Penguin about this. Looks pretty cool - placed an order after reading up on it here.

Hey everyone, I resurrected my Café account just so I could comment here.
Stellar is a fantastic device. I see people discussing whether or not it is examinable, or if spectators would be able to find the "sweet spot" if they decide to shine light through it. I don't think that matters at all. I like that it cannot show multiple cards. If it could, then people would just think that you can display any card with it depending on how you hold it. I also like that there isn't a dummy clip to switch the reveal clip out with. If your spectators are determined to find it themselves, then their inability to find the reveal would take too much attention from the effect. They'd become more interested in solving the puzzle instead. Try this presentation with it. Suitable for mentalists and magicians, and doesn't matter if your spectators want to examine the clip or not. Have your spectator close their eyes, and shine "stars" on their face. Say, "With closed eyes in the light of stars, our dreams are brought to life." Then ask them to dream/imagine/day dream about choosing a playing card however you want. Then ask them to open their eyes and tell them you will bring that dream to life by repeating the action. Have them choose a card (use your favourite force). Then use Stellar to shine stars on a wall and say, "now lets use these stars to take a look at the card from your dream". Then the reveal takes place, and the card could be turned over before or after the Stellar reveal. Depending on the reaction of your audience, you could shape this into a mystical presentation, or purely psychological, and act as though the clip is designed to project and image into the spectator's mind. Now it doesn't matter if they examine it or not. You could even say the clip was originally made by a famous Astronomer to test the effects of the night sky on the human psyche. Boom. Mic drop. Only joking, but I hope you guys like this presentation idea |

After showing that the stars reveal the same card again, use that number to find their card in the deck. -Since you have manipulated the their card to that position. Patter ideas- The stars usually remain aligned this way all night. You must have the same star sign as he/she. For a sports style pun- Claim that your card case is a _________ fan. Stellar is okay, but not for 40$ of course. It's just a one card revelation which cannot be examined by a spectator if he will mind.
If he won't mind - he will have a look and ok, but normal concerned spectator will take it and will shine it with his own phone on the same wall you performed for him. And of course will see the 7 of diamonds.. And as a card clip - it's not good at all. It will be soiled and dirty in a minutes. So not classy at all. Look at the photo - my hands was really clean and I just took it out of the box))) So once again - the product is okay, but 25-30$ is the highest price for this. |

You make some very good points which become real interesting when one realizes that many are having a great time with this and enjoying their audiences reactions.

Spray it with Plasti Dip. Now that I have thought of that, I might pick this up.

Does anyone else feel like the edge is a little sharp, after holding it for the reveal for long periods?

Stellar – Alchemy Insiders
Product description: If you have one card revelation and 100 forces, you have 1 trick. If you have 100 card revelations but only 1 force, you have 100 tricks. I always try to remember that when I look for new magic trick on the market, whether they’re gimmicks or techniques. Here, Stellar is a metallic card clip which has a built in revelation, a very cool one. You will shine a light through the holes and they will reveal the previously chosen card. But is it worth the asked price ? Let’s find out ! Price and where to buy it: This is sold at $39.95 and you can find it in nearly every Murphy's magic partner ! What you get: You get the classic cardboard box with magnetic lid, very esthetic in my opinion. Inside, protected by foam, you have the card clip which is made out of metal with a mirror finish on it. It’s beautiful but fingers will leave a trace on it very easily and it is also quite easy to get scratches on it. For that, you get a little black velvet bag if you need to clean it or carry it in a protected way. The video provided is simple, less than 10 minutes but you understand everything. Overall, it’s quite expensive for a card clip which can be damaged easily, but the effect is worth it in my opinion. Teaser: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wA5wocNakTg The pros and the cons: Here is the core of my review, let's begin with the cons, as I will usually be doing, I prefer to keep the good things for the end. THE CONS: - As I said, the clip is quite fragile, you can leave traces and scratches on it without paying attention. I don’t mind, I think it gives a authentic look to it. But the mirror finish (which is why this is so fragile) wasn’t needed in my opinion. - You have to be in a quite dark atmosphere so people can really see the revelation. Daylight will kill the reveal. - There is only 1 reveal possible. THE PROS: - I really like this revelation, Mathieu Bich had something similar with a punched playing card, which was later released by Tenyo. It looks very magical ! - It’s very easy to do, you only have to know a force and you’re good to go. - I love tricks which involve the spectator’s phone, it gives an extra layer of deception to the routine. You can use the flashlight on his phone to do the reveal. - The card clip can also protect your deck, so if you don’t want to use it, you don’t have to. No gimmicks are in play in the deck. - It will be hard for people to trackback the working of the clip, which can be handed out, so it’s a positive for me. Overall rating: I think this is one of the most magical playing card in my opinion, clever, useful. Unfortunately, the card clip can be dirty too quick and scratches can appear too quick, which is why I remove 1 heart, 3/4 hearts. As for the difficulty level, you need to know how to force a card, handling the clip is very easy, 2/5 stars. Similar products: Constellation Cards by Mathieu Bich, released by Tenyo is also a very cool product, which will allow you to do several revelations with only one gimmick. I agree that it is expensive and unless one is a working pro I would say that $40 for this is a rip-off especially since it was most likely made in China to increase profits. I picked mine up, used. I don't think I would have ever bought this new.

I also agree that the mirror finish wasn't necessary and in fact can be annoying if finger prints will bother you. If one desires to change the look to a brushed finish there is this option-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntSY_YdhnnA If you don't have scratches in your prop that you would like to remove you can skip to minute 2:09. He uses 120 grit sandpaper.

I just took a green scrub sponge to my Stellar and buffed it back and forth until I was satisfied.
What? Oh, I'm okay. It didn't hurt a bit. Everything came out okay and I am happy with the results. It doesn't look quite like a real nice brushed nickel finish but it is good enough for now. The mirror finish is gone and it doesn't show finger prints as profound. I can go over it with 120 grit later if I desire. Interesting that I noticed that they put a nice brushed nickel on the inside of the prop. Maybe I can just turn the whole thing inside-out!

The reveal should not look so perfectly lined up .. it looks like it is the outline of a font, which it is. The ‘stars’ of the reveal should be slightly out of alignment so that it looks more organic. Imperfect, yet still easily recognizable. Like a constellation, you must use a bit of imagination to see the shape, yet you still can recognize the shape easily. Do this and you have magic. Now it’s just a trick.

This is true, the reveal holes could have been arranged better.

This is a card reveal disguised as a card clip, but it doesn't really serve the purpose of a card clip as you be worried abt scratching the shiny finish of the clip. You will need a bag to protect the clip that is supposed to protect your cards.
