Hi guys!
I am looking for a way to force 5-6 postcards on a stage - maybe taped together to make them more visible... Any ideas? Thank you! |

So do you want to force one postcard from a deck of 5-6?

Yes, in the fairest maner possible.
Maybe rough and smooth? |

This depends on the trick that you're performing. What happens? What's the effect you want to communicate to the audience?

Without knowing the context of your effect, you can have them standing on end (on a stand). And use the force most associated with the hot-rod.
You could even have them roll a die to generate the number. |

Maybe the force I hate the most? The 1-to-6 number Force... Counting (or spelling) numbers to arrive at three (the forced item)
Ugly. But fooled me the first two(!) times I went to buy crap at the magic shop. Did I tell you I hate it? |

As you pointed out - rough and smooth has its advantages.

Maybe a long/short card or a hindu. No need to get complicated.

If you can get more cards, I think the 7/9 is a great force for postcards. You will need 11 postcards, and some 'tricky' on two of them. Ask any number between 1 and 10, and you can count down to the forced postcard.

Or if you have a table on stage, use the Down Under force.
Mark the force postcard on the back with a pencil dot, get the spectator to shuffle them. In showing them what you want them to do, move the marked postcard to the correct place (4th from top in a stack of 6) and then get them to complete the Down Under force. |

A PATEO force would work as well.

You could also use Quinta if you can limit it to five postcards.

R&S would work wonderfully with such a small stack. I believe this is what Chuck Hickok used with postcards. Also Aldo Columbini did really easy but deceptive force with jumbo cards where he basically did glide and moved cards from bottom of the stack to top until spectators called stop. Or depending what you intend to force with postcards you could also have like 3 same cards with different pictures though and 3 normal different ones. Then just missread two when you introduce them and do magicians choise with those. Or even have all the same and just missread them all.

To force a "common postcard", I used a stack of 15 "sets" of postcards (one indifferent/one common) held together with a very, very, very small amount of magician's wax on the four corners. Used this method for the last 8 years I performed.

If the postcards are lined up 1-6, you can also use a gimmicked dice to eliminate them one-at-a-time, a la Tom Stone's Hug/Kill routine. It is engaging and highly theatrical, but it puts emphasis on the selection process. Without understanding the routine, it's impossible to know if that is a good thing or not.
