Hi everyone!
My name is Wendy and I was on the Magic Café' 12 - 13 years ago, and then vanished! (Tah-dah!) Darn real life getting in the way of magical endeavors. I am in beautiful Denver, Colorado and used to perform mostly mentalism and a few tricks thrown into an educational show about the Celtic harp that I did in libraries and places like that. I missed magic too much to stay away, and now I am back, dusting off the few books and items I still have and trying to start over again. I'm so glad the Café' is still here, and even some names I recognize. I have so much to learn. I feel like I've forgotten everything. There is so much to do. Anyway, hi! So excited to see what there is to learn here! I'm so happy to be back! - Wendy

Welcome back Wendy Wylde,
Was it something we said? What kinds of Magic interest you most? Do you play the Harp? I work Libraries several times a year. Lots of dedicated Parents and mixed ages. I just love the crowd. Don't worry about forgetting so much, it will come back and you'll have a fresh perspective. -Mary Mowder |

No... it's dumb to admit but I got into a relationship with a guy who didn't like magic (and especially didn't like that _I_ did magic) and for some reason I put up with that and let it all go. It's obviously a little more complicated than just that, but the only important thing now is that it's over and I'm back and I think I may have even learned my lesson concerning giving up things you love for other people. What kinds of Magic interest you most? Do you play the Harp? I love to watch any kind of magic at all, but for performing it myself I think I love mentalism the most. It seems to work best for me as a woman, too, since most guys believe women can read minds anyway. I do a few little card things, and a few little coin things, but mostly it's mentalism for me. I do play the harp, though I kind of let that go too, so I'm recovering my harp playing as well as my magic. They ended up deeply entwined in my life, and I can't have one without the other now. Library shows are a unique performance venue, for sure. They were so much fun, and I always really enjoyed the kids and parents. It'll be a while before I'm back up to that kind of thing, but it's a dream for the future for sure. Quote:
Don't worry about forgetting so much, it will come back and you'll have a fresh perspective. What a wonderful way to look at it. A little bit older and wiser does seem to have given me a slightly different perspective. Stuff I used to do doesn't seem to suit me the same way anymore. Thanks for putting it that way, I needed to hear that. Anyway, thanks for the warm welcome! It's nice to be back. Did I miss anything? LOL! - Wendy

Hi Wendy,
For the Libraries I do some Magic, Jugglery and Comedy (mostly Magic) with some relating to reading in general (like a Book Test) or relating to the current Summer Reading theme. I like Silk Magic and I'm into Ropes and Ring and Rope type stuff. I envy your ability to play harp. You should definitely include that. -Mary |

I envy your ability to play harp. You should definitely include that. One of my jobs/callings is "professional harp pusher" so I have to say that you should give the harp a try! It is such a forgiving instrument (the little folk harp like I play, not the big pedal harps so much). I love watching kids put their fingers on the strings for the first time. It really is very magical. I got in cahoots with the local harp store (Denver is so lucky to HAVE a local harp store) and end up sending kids there to try out the harp all the time. So... you should try it. I will definitely take your advice to incorporate it, though. The harp is an inherently magical instrument, and so it lends itself to magic very nicely. I'm anxious to get back into it, but I need to practice a bit more and get myself together. I missed it all so much. This is going to be fun. - Wendy

Harpo Marx played the harp (well, of course!) If I remember, he played it with the harp "backwards".
There'a an ancient gag line: "I took my harp to the party, but, no one asked me to play!" Of course with my talent, as an infant, I only played on the linoleum! So! welcome to the Café, Wendy! I must say, I do like the square burgers at your restaurant.

He took self teaching to a new level and played with his own tuning and did everything "wrong" but still made beautiful music. He did eventually take lessons, but I think he stayed with his own methods through most of his life. I've always been a Groucho girl, myself, but Harpo was a character too. Fun fact - Groucho hated the harp. He's the only person I've ever heard of that didn't like the harp. So any time you see Harpo playing in one of their movies, Groucho was nowhere near that set. It's the biggest in the world! A friend got me a button that says "Welcome to heaven, here's your tuning wrench and your harp..... welcome to Hell, here's your harp." Quote:

I love those little square hamburgers too, though I can't take credit for them. Would you believe they don't even give me free burgers?!?! I'm a WENDY! I should write a harshly worded letter. *harumph* - Wendy

Welcome Wendy! You could take your harp to a bar and play while you drink Harp beer. Sorry if I harped on the musical instrument too much.

You know, I used to go to the bar to play my harp and occasionally enjoy a nice pint, until one night I told them I was late because I had to change my g-string and apparently they got the wrong idea. The next time I tried to order a beer, the bartender told me they didn't have any and I told him he was a lyre. I suppose it's just as well 'cause when I drink too much I become a harpy. I think it's because I'm a bit high strung. *rimshot* Thank you! I'll be here all week! Don't forget to tip your server! :-D Ahem.... anyway. Thanks for the warm welcome! I'm really glad I'm back. I've already learned so much, and I've met some very cool, funny folks too! - Wendy

Wendy, you have a great sense of humor. I was thinking about editing my post to let you know that I could be a harpy at times, but you beat me to the punch using the term.
Good luck with your magical career. |
