Good afternoon friends. Does anyone know the history of the creation of this act? I read on the Internet - but now I can not find an article. The classical principles of a cut rope.
Thank You!

I have not seen "P & T'a Polyester. so I'll just hazard a guess. When you mention "classical principles of cut rope", it suggests the "burned, or cut, and restored Turban.

What they call "Polyester" is really the Cut and Restored Hindu Turban Mystery, it has been presented as the burnt and restored Turban Mystery as well in the past. The best description was in "The Magic With Faucett Ross" book by Lewis Ganson, published by the defunct Supreme Magic, you may find a copy on line as they are now selling Supreme books that were in storage for over 40 years. This book is gold, has many classic effects described. One of my favorite books.
I really liked this handling version, teller really knows how to bring the old effects up a few notches. Penn and Teller also performed this on the David Letterman late night show, with a different presentation. David Letterman has retired. This show was on television this week. Very good show, it was a recap of people that did fool Penn and Teller, and so they gave them the trophy, that should have gotten it when they were on the show. |

You have to search YouTube, if you want to watch it.

Tried to find but nothing. They said in one interview - that recently invented this version. So I'm surprised that there are early versions of their trick.

Yes, the Letterman show version is a little different then the April Fool show. One is a small stage television show, and the other is for the big stage. Same trick, different handling and presentations. Very smart on Teller's part, he is a genius at working out new routines.
For letterman, you don't listen to the interviews, they are all just "something to say", nothing is actually true. Look for teller holding a huge cloth in his hands. Sorry, I do not remember the year it was aired. I only remember seeing the Hindu Turban Mystery with a great misdirection by Teller. It was before Televisions shows were on the Internet. April Fool 2018 Show, love the misdirection handling in this one as well. |

MANY years ago, an old friend of mine, now deceased, was a young man working a world's fair in San Francisco. He was the outside talker on a side show. He used the TURBAN MYSTERY as a bally to grab a tip, and hold that tip, until he pitched the show, and, turned the tip. He did very well, as he did it all summer.
You will find the "HINDU TURBAN MYSTERY" in TARBELL Vol 6 Page 334. I chuckled when I read in your post, that they "...recently invented this version..." I am particularly pleased to provide THIS information! --Because, so many young magicians snicker when they hear me say that much of my show, came from TARBELL! I was on the road for about 50 years, doing those "dusty, old fashioned tricks from those very old fashioned books! I had read/studied TARBELL WHEN I was 15. I never had to ask a Lyceum Bureau for a tour. They called me! I was never "at liberty". I DID update the PRESENTATIONS, and the PATTER, but, I learned the PRINCIPLES in TARBELL. PENN & TELLER were clever enough to take an "ANCIENT PRINCIPLE", and UPDATE THE PRESENTATION!!! I know PENN & TELLER. We shared a suite along with the incoming President of the SAM, Roy Snyder in the Waldorf Astoria at the SAM National Convention in 1978. We had four days to get acquainted. Penn spent the 4th of July, shooting bottle rockets out of the window!

Thank you dear friends! I read or heard the interview - where they said they invented a new trick. Of course - they might be talking about the presentation.
Of course it's classic. I am inspired by this ingenious presentation. I would like to see their earlier version. I also try to find their audio interview on YouTube.
