Last week I was looking around the Internet, and all of sudden, I thought, what is David Charvet been doing, the last book I purchased from him was about "Jarrow - The Humorist Trixter", it is now one of my favorite books, right behind "Ade Duval - The Silken Sorcerer".
To my surprise, he has been busy writing more books. What caught my eye was his little booklet, perfect bound called, "Charvet On The Classics, four stand-up routines for stage and adult audiences. Today, the long wait was over, and the package arrived. I opened the envelope, and found a nicely printed booklet, on glossy paper. It contained only four effects with full routines from very old classic magic, most of have all heard of, or even have in our storage rooms. They are: The old classic P&L Vanishing Wand, The Classic Die Box, Cards Across from 1948 hidden in a classic book, that was very expensive for the time, and The Linking Rings. Having read quickly though the booklet, I was inspired and by the scripts and routines, handlings and how he created those dry old tricks, into show pieces and opening numbers specifically for magicians. As I read the text, many ideas flooded my mind, how these routines can be individually changes for each person in how he or she sees the in their "minds eye". What encouraged me to purchase the booklet, was his routine for the Die Box. Ade Duval on his last attempt to make a come back, after his long illness and recovery, had a die box routine for adult audiences. We will never know his routine, but here is at least an idea of how to use this prop for an adult audience. Sure many have used the description routine about the last kids show they performed the Die Box for, but is does not get much reaction, only smiles from the adults. So I now can see a way to bring it into a new of presenting it, with some changes more to my way that I see it being presented. How excited I get when something I have been looking for appears. Sometimes that is all one needs is that little bit of an idea to complete the journey. The booklet is only $15.00 with $5 express shipping. It is worth much more then the currency. Thank you David Charvet, you have made my day. I see David Charvet has also completed another historical book on the Great Nicola. I highly recommend this little booklet for those that want to entertain, and just not do tricks. Yes there are a few text error, spell checker say correct spelling, but is can't correct a misused word, because of one letter being left out. I blame the word processor, and my keyboard. Well, I have to go, and finish my new routine for the Abbott's Elusive Clock (Same as a Die Box, only a clock instead of a Dice, or is it Die). |

Thanks for that t bit of information Bill, I too... find the die box intriguing. The Bob Gunther routine (found in Genii mid 1960’s) in Levent’s bok on Benson hassome positive points as well. No doubt about it... Ade Duval was a great performer..
