I just heard about the passing of Leeman Parker. Regardless of what the circumstances were, it's a very sad loss for our brotherhood. He was so young. It was too soon.
Here are my brief, but impactful memories of Leeman: I first saw Leeman Parker perform on my very first trip to The Magic Castle back in 2010. He opened his act with a tie prediction. He came out from behind the curtain holding 6 or 8 ties draped across his arms. He asked people in the audience to eliminate ties until he was left holding just one. To prove that he knew which one was going to be picked, he reached inside his unbuttoned collar and removed a matching necktie which was tied loosely around his neck. He raised his collar, buttoned the top button, put the tie in place and cinched it up and put his collar down, now ready to proceed with the show. I thought it was a very unorthodox and unexpected way to reveal a prediction and just an all around fantastic opening! When I got home from my vacation, I still had my program from The Magic Castle, so I looked up his name and contacted him via email to ask him if he could run me through the routine. Surprisingly, he wrote me back and told me that it was not his effect, but directed me towards where to find it. It was called 'Tie One On' from Eric Mead's book 'Tangled Web'. I purchased the book promptly So I could learn it. I got the opportunity to emcee our IBM Ring's banquet later that same year and opened with it myself. The revelation got a great reaction from the crowd. Thank you my friend! I contacted him again via email in 2014 after seeing David & Leeman on America's Got Talent to congratulate them. He wrote back again just to say 'Thanks'. I Got to see him perform with David one last time at Magic Live 2016. Absolutely wonderful and funny performance! Thank you for the great memories! You will be missed! |
