I have an Auke van Dokkum-made set of Morgans, and was wondering if the Kingdom or Tiger-Tan coins would fit the expanded shell?

The same with the halves, they fit in shells great. (I will note Kingdom Half Dollars will fit shells, but to cut the hole without warping they are made a fraction of a mm thicker than a Kennedy half. So the shell doesn't set as deep on halves only, but covers perfectly. No issues with dollar size to note.) Hope you pick some up! Great question, Doc D.

On the one hand, I have most of Kainoa's and Rune's published works, and so I have planty of material to study when it comes to EG. Variations on the FD, however, are few and far between. On the other hand, I prefer the aesthetic of the Kingdom Coins. I'd like to use those in a routine of Eric Jones, and believe the holes make that much more convincing. |

You can buy the Kingdom coins separately.

I just received Tresor and Realme. This was my first purchase from Copeland Coins and I will give my two cents. The coins are beautiful. The communication from Jeff Copeland was great as I had also ordered a coin pouch and he immediately emailed me with some options. However what I am most impressed with is the instructional video. The video with the alternate instructional content really works for me. I will not get rid of my books but this different teaching approach reallly is helping me to understand the concepts fully. In a month or two I will write an update as to how my learning is progressing with this system and let you know if my initial impressions still hold true.

I'm a bit late to the party on this one. I picked up a set of Reialme coins from Jeff last month at Magifest. They are STUNNINGLY beautiful! I'm really not much of a sleight of hand coin guy, every coin routine I do uses a gaff and I thought this would be a nice way to get into some hardcore sleights. When I got home from the convention I started playing and found a perfect routine using them, but required a few more coins, so I ordered more and even paid for the Tresor video. Jeff has been great to deal with and I really look forward to any other products he has coming out. I will add that I'm embarrased to have someone who most would consider a legend in close up magic acting like a petulant child. We don't have to like every product released, but no reason to slam someone and be a !@#$%^&.

Would you categorize the Kingdom coins as being particularly "soft"?

There are plenty of routines which benefit from coins being soft. Of course there are just as many that don't, so not a big deal, just limits certain presentations due to noise concerns. Take your typical 3 Fly for instance. Thanks for the info!!! |

Many coins are not soft, and there are as many routines for those as there are for soft coins. Every coin has a story, and while they are not american, they are certainly intriguing. I don't even think it's an issue to call them replicas of coins from the middle ages. After all, we commonly use fake chinese coins, no difference in my mind. As for their use, depends on your stlry. That's what it's all about.
S.E.M. (The Sun, the Moon, and the Earth) is a sun and moon routine unlike any other. Limited to 100 sets, here is the promo:

Hi there,
I'm new in the forum and want to say hello to all of you. I would consider me as advanced beginner in coin magic and I don't want to argue against any of all the experienced magicians here. Nevertheless I would like to share something, that may help at least other beginners and is it more about the Kingdom-Coins. I percieve them to be a little more "talky" than the Tiger-Tan's and less smooth, but that is maybe subjective. If you have to choose one of the two sets, I would prefer the Tiger-Tans. Also due to there is a ] and c/s available. When it comes to the download Tresor, is more beginner friendly than Reialme, which are both very good products in my opinion. I was going to use The Kingdom-Coins for the CCC, but because the cross is punched out and has pointed corners on the back, the coins tend to hook in the band. Also, the shape of the cross itself adds unnecessary tension and noise to the ribbon, making it more difficult to handle. And now special for the half dollar coins: They are much thicker than Walking Liberty's and also thicker than Tiger-Tan's. This means: no four coins will fit in the Copeland Coin boxes and the secret of the slot box will not hold back a "Kingdom-Coin". In the beginning Rick posted something about the possibility for a ]. But the cross will make it harder to cover it as deceptive as chinese coins with simple holes. Finally, some personal experiences: The cross is something very special, the coins attracts greater interest and I was asked about them more often. One of the most frequent questions was: Where does it come from? Is this a Maltese coin? People first think of the Order of St. John (An order of knights from the crusades, today similar to the "Red Cross" and well recognized. Perhaps no one outside of Europe knows it). Another common question: How much was it worth and what currency is it? (perhaps typically German?) When I hand it out, people see the date. Often they then ask, "This is supposed to be an old coin?" I don't want to explain contradictions, or explain anything at all. I always say "I guess they are medallions and not coins, but I don't really care. I just bought them because I like the look and found them to be interesting." To some spectators this leaves a kind of mystery, other times people lose interest. There are so many collectibles out there... Same with the Tiger-Tan, except here I'm hardly ever asked. People see a copper coin and that's it. Only friends and family wanted to have a closer look, otherwise in exceptions only. When I do spellbound things with Tiger-Tan and Kingdom-Coin, a lot of people thinking I'm adding a hole instead of seeing an other coin and I would not say it's a contrasting color. Anyway, the main thing is they see that something magical has happened. Final thought: If you want to mimic a currency, it would be better if it has a value. If you want to mimic an old coin, it should look more like other old coins from the 20th century. and not have a "fanacy" reverse. From my point of view, in this case it would have been better without a date, but also: I like the design, I can hand them out without problems and my impression is that my spectators are not particularly suspicious, when I just tell (almost) the truth. For me the copeland sets fit much better than others, like mafia/pirate coins. |
