It's been a while that I bought a mentalism. I've got a few books, the most important are:
Annemann, Theodore, Practical mental magic Cassidy, Bob, The artful mentalism Corinda, Tony, 13 steps to mentalism Lemezma, Marc, Mind tricks Lesley, Ted, Paramiracles Macknik, Stephen L, & Susana Martinez-Conde & Sandra Blakeslee, Sleights of mind Maven, Max, Prism Rowland, Ian, The full facts book of cold reading I think it's about time that I'll buy a new one. Which book do you recommend? And why? It has to be a book that fits in this row. PS I'm not looking for DVD's or e-books. Just old fashioned paper books.

Minimalistic, Metaphysical, Mentalism by Scott Creasey. It's a modern classic.

Bruce Bernstein's Unreal belongs on your list.

I second Bill's recommendation on Unreal. Quite possibly my favorite book on mentalism.Anything by Barrie Richardson and Banachek's Subtleties collection should keep you busy.

I third “Unreal”. And also Psychological Subtleties. If the Cassidy Book you have isn’t Artful Mentalism 2- Fundamentals, then you need that one also.
I also recommend Scryer’s Little Black Book and White books (and lots of his books but start with those), Richard Webster’s “Psychometry from A to Z”. Doug Dyment’s “Mindsights”.

Unreal, and his other 20 effects for psychic entertainers.
Fred. Kolb's exciting experiments in ESP. And all of Riggs.

Switchcraft: 867 pages on techniques regarding pieces of paper. Switches, ditches, steals, loads, peeks, tears, fake tears, fully fledged routines, a dozen or so Q&A acts, contributions from other mentalists, and the lists goes on. This will set you back 19.95 USD, the best deal you can find in mentalism, anywhere.
Oh and the book gets bigger as time goes on 😉 Artful mentalism 2 (already mentioned), great book as well. |

I already have a copy of all of those so I just somewhat noticed the news about it. I'd keep my eyes open if I were you. |

So many to choose from, really depends upon your style and requirements.
When contemplating buying a book, I consider what I want to achieve; Am I looking for effects, principals, utilities, furtherment of a specific idea...even entertainment and insight. I have just finished 'The Intrepid Rogue's Manual of Deception' by Atlas Brookings, which was a joy to read, full of incredible ideas, and my new favourite in terms of look and feel. The amount of love and thought that has gone into the production of this book is apparent as soon as you hold it. In terms of fitting in the row, Theatre of the Mind, and Act Two would sit nicely, both by Barrie Richardson. Wonderful in terms of both principals and performances. Certainly comparable to the others you have in terms of style and quality. |

The three books that make up the ‘basics’ span an introduction to mentalism into a university course are Cassidy’s Artful Mentalism—v 2, The Principals of Mentalism by Osterlind and Mentalism Incorporated by Hickok.
Want to go to mentalism university? Unreal by Bernstein. THEN read the 13 Steps and the other classics. They’ll make much more sense. David

Chuck Hickox's stuff is excellent. And Ran Pink's Switchcraft is just insane. So much material. I've lost count on which iteration he's up to. It's not so much a book as a lifetime subscription to his brain.
I'm selling my hardcover autographed limited edition copy of Jerome Finley's "Thought Veil"

Actually, Switchcraft is by Elliott Bressler. Ran Pink has also done some significant things with paper, but Switchcraft isn't one of them. (I wish my friendly and helpful tone could come across as easily in text as in speech - don't read that as jumping on you, but as crediting my buddy Elliott.)
