Hello Café goers. I’m trying to identify a trick.
The apparatus consists of a small notepad, spiral bound at the top. The front and back are plastic. One cover is transparent and one black and opaque. Immediately under the transparent cover (which I will call the front but it might not be) is a line drawing of an artists easel on which is depicted a playing card or a pad with a playing card on it. Then there’s two blank pages followed by another drawn easel showing a different card. This sequence is repeated right throughout the pad until right towards the ‘back’ where the easel drawing and depicted card are followed by 4 blank pages. Then there are 2 pages stuck together with a shim between them, and finally another drawing of an easel with a card on it and two blank pages. Then the black ‘back’ cover. There is also a small blank rectangular piece the same size as the pad/card drawn on the easel. This piece has a black line drawn boarder to match the easel drawing and it has a magnetic back. It willl stick to the shim page when it has the magnetic side facing it. The shim won’t hold the the magnetic blank rectangle in place with more than one page of paper between it and the shim. I had assumed the effect is that the blank easel has the card appear on it. But I can’t see how the set up as is allows for this as the shim isn’t behind the page with the easel. So I can’t see how the magnetic blank square can be held over the easel as there’s either no shimmed page behind it (it would be in front of the rearmost drawing) or there are 5 layers between the drawing (the one 2nd from the rear) and the shimmed page. The owner of this prop says it is set up as he bought it and that he hasn’t taken out or moved around any pages Can anyone tell me what the trick is called, what the effect actually is, and what the correct set up is? Many thanks.
