I just watched Bobby Motta's At The Table Lecture and I loved his pocket shrinking head "illusion" called Zoom that is supposed to be released by Murphy's. The spiral is a collapsible Frisbee and there is a magnetic hand crank to give the motion. It all packs down in a little pocket bag. This video has been out for three years so I fear the project has fallen by the wayside. Does anyone know of alternatives?

I believe Michael Weber sells something similar to this.

I first saw this used on a kids science tv show many years ago and made up a version that I opened my show with for years. I had an electronic device made to run it at the same speed. Eventually the motor broke and I've never managed to get it fixed. Discovered the man who made it for me originally went to prison, very thoughtless of him. At the time I thought it was so original of me to use this, it wasn't until much later I discovered how popular they were with kids magicians and mentalists.
For years I've tried to make a more portable version. Tried electric drills but they run too fast and hand cranks but the speeds are too erratic. If someone is selling a handheld version that actually works I'd appreciated a PM letting me know where it's available. |
