I’ve gotten to the point where I know alot of sleights (card and coin), but I don’t know many routines. Does anyone know of any good videos. I mean anything like Ortiz or Vernon routines. Strong magic!

By "like Ortiz and Vernon" do you mean you already have their videos and are looking for similar level material?
Or are you looking for Ortiz and Vernon material? |

Check out Gary Kurtz's video "Let's get Flourious". Great card and coin work, his jumbo coin work is just awesome.
For some nutty coin work check out "Palms of Steel" I have been having fun with Pit Hartling's "Little Green Video" some pretty good card stuff on that vid. I could go on forever. Get to looking at some books too. |

I also think you should check out The Collected Almanac by Richard Kaufman. That book is just full of some really great stuff. Cards, Coins and other things.

Not sure if you mean harder moves by "advanced" or if you mean more effects that include routines. If you are looking for routines check out any Aldo Colombini or Martin Lewis video. Aldo's Lasting Impressions videos have a lot of great effects along with great routines. Martin's new video Card Creations also has a lot of great card routines on it... plus I am in it
Thank you,

If you want to play with some seriously hard stuff, try the Steve Forte tapes on for size.

I would caution you against learning what I call "disembodied moves"--moves for their own sake outside the context of a routine. I know a number of guys who do this, then they show me a move and ask me if I can think of a good effect for it. IMO, this is the REVERSE of how to create good magic. Think of a strong EFFECT and then figure out how it can be accomplished.
All the old-timers, and many of the not-so-old-timers, (notably Michael Skinner) advised learning a sleight within the context of a routine, such that it flows smoothly in the routine. This is much better than inserting a move you’ve practiced by itself. While the move will look OK, getting into it and coming out of it will not. That’s my advice. Do with it what you will.

greatscott is on the money.... but I would be a liar if I said it was the only way....
I learned several ways to shoot or fly cards on a whim. This was completely N.M.V.I. AND FOR THE MOST PART TOTALLY USELESS... so what did I do? Spent two weeks developing a routine that right now is my favorite close up stuff. Forget what you’re told, open up that creative lump of brain, see something different, and have a ball messin with the rest of us.................. JOE |

i love gary kurtz....i do a bunch of uff...technically challenging...lets get flouripous or creative magic...that will keep you working for a while....but remember....technicallly challenging is not always entertaining...and maghicians who work for money are entertainers.....cellini says simple is best.....with no tricky items

Hey Koz,
How ya doing? The problem I found with just learning certain moves is that since I don't really perform for Magicians, I perform for lay audiences. Anywhere I can entertain, I do. Kurtz has some beautiful stuff. I really have gotten very focused in the past 2-3 years on stuff that I know I can work into the act. Hopefully it will be as entertaining for the crowd as for me.
