Hello Everyone
As a performer new to using ropes I was wondering if there was a certain way of storing the ropes in between shows and as well if there is a right or wrong way of transporting them. Thank you for the feedback... Lil Pixie |

Large zip lock freezer bag works great.

When I was on the road, "between shows" was "that night, and the next morning!. The rope never left the prop case. --except on Laundy day!

This question is to open ended to be answered and yet, there are offering, and the OP never returned to clarify.
You need to know what the OP was talking about. Carrying the rope around all day, or having it in a performance case. Impromptu, planed performance, or storage. There may be "no such thing as a stupid question, but open ended incomplete questions are hopeless to answer. If in a plastic bag, in your prop case, it should be set up for easy removal, thus a pill vile or small box would be the answer. If on a cruise ship, then everything needs to be in a plastic bag, as rope, silks, foulards will soak up the moisture in the atmosphere. The kid, I can only guess, was speaking of carrying around, in that case, you need to use a close-up case/bag of some kind, as having rope in the pocket would also absorb body sweat and oils. |

Beyond plastic bags, I would suggest that the ends be "fixed" so as to not fray

I checked the "profile" of the OP. It's apparent, to me at least, that the OP is an occasional performer, who "puts things away" at home, between occasional shows.
Billy McComb, working cruise ships, carried props for four or five different shows in his ATTACHE CASE. Billy packed his various SMALL props in transparent plastic bags to keep them organized. He had openers, middles, and, closers. He didn't need to open the bags to see the contents. On the road, often doing three, and sometimes four, shows in one day (and all in different schools, with miles between them) created the need for more practical "storage" of props! I NEVER used a "DUMP BAG" to toss props in after they were used in a routine. That would have made my work impossible! My "fat" attache case (13" x 20" x 8") was "lined" with open top, thin, paste board boxes (all taped to the bottom of the case) Each prop in a routine, was in its own box. The prop(s) were removed, worked, and, returned in the course of the show. Only a few props needed "reset" between shows. I had "cover lines" to keep the show "moving" while picking up or replacing props in the case. It was a successful system for almost 50 years. It did take PLANNING, and REHEARSAL, but, it paid off! The late ED RENO, veteran Chautauqua magician, "packed up with a shovel". He did, at most, a matinee and evening show a day, on the same stage. It must have taken him an hour (!!!) to set up on the next stage! The late Russ Charles (Zieske) did a "modified" version of Ed's "pack up". (I saw him do it!) If one does an occasional show in one's home town, it's a "whole 'nother thing"!. PLANNING the PACKING, as well as the PERFORMANCE, can make the difference, when you make a "living off it".

IIRC, OKITO said something about "packing". (See last sentence, above.)
