Is this not so?
Coins have much fewer moves to master (but they're denser). A short list of moves and a newbie will be naming "Harada and Bertini". I will contend that Coins are less "forgiving", the path is steeper, and getting "loaded" at the beginning is more important. I will also posit that if you are going to have competency you better master the 'core' moves and have a few advanced moves too. If you don't you'll never move past "uncle Eddy" tricks. I put most transfers in the middle. If I didn't have the "Pinch" and "Pitch", I'd pack-it-in. I can't get the Muscle Pass in the least, and that's a big hit. With Cards on the other hand, work-arounds are usually easier. With Coins, you have to, mostly, come-in stacked (loaded). To have an effect you have to "show clear" to your spectators, thus the challenge. Cards have full-deck false shuffles, so stack away. That being said, I think generally, Coins are more "punchy" to the spectators (because they're more physical), whereas most card effects are "cerebral" (because spectators go hmm). I made a lot of generalizations in the name of getting a comparison between the two. Any one else bother with this?

It seems as if you have an answer and are searching for a justification.

Nah! Coins or flat, shiny stones while cards are scraps of tree bark. They are not related (brothers) except in the imagination.
That is OK, but no hierarchy is required.

Card players can do a lot of chip tricks today and it has become something of an art form.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Cards, like sponge balls, don't work as well as coins in the windy outdoors. ps, Tommy, liked that 'chip tricks' pun, unintended or not! Lynn

Yes, this is not so.
