Any ideas for mentalism/bizarre magic with Egyptian/mummy/pharaoh theme?
Already planning for October. I have to start earlier and earlier each year it seems. Want to do an Egyptian themed show with some escape room elements mixed in with the show.. (hear me out).. My basic premise is that the performance area will be decorated like the inside of a tomb (faux stone walls made out of canvas drop cloths and flecstone paint or carved foam) with a few Egyptian tapestries hung up.. I also make my own mummies and corpses so there will be a few rotting bodies of prior explorers in the room and a mummy also. I will dress like a tomb explorer and be very glad to see everyone who comes in to be seated as if they are here to rescue me. I figured I could play the loud sound of a stone falling and make it seem like we are all trapped in the tomb destined to meet the same fate as the prior explorers unless we break the curse placed on us by the vindictive mummy. And then the routines come in to play combined with some puzzle solving. All in my head at this point, but my question is have any of you played any bizarre routines with an Egyptian spin on them? I have an egyptian tarot deck which I can do a few things with. Can't get lucky enough to find or even afford a wandering mummy. I'm fairly limited with my props despite having quite a bit of bizarre items because none of them fit the Egyptian theme. I do want to incorporate Hasbuns Oraculum but I still need to brainstorm some more. Thoughts? |

Stevens has the Wandering Mummy in stock.
An alternative is The Mummy Mystery, Penguin just got a deluxe edition in (I picked it up for my grand daughter). Have you looked through the books? Christian has 4 Egyptian pieces in Capricornian Tales. |

Martin Mercy offers, for $35.00, a very nice set of cards with an Egyptian design on the back, columns of numbers on the front, and a story-line on the DVD featuring the ancient Egyptian numbering system. The title is "Numerology." Experienced mentalists will already be familiar with the method; for close-up and parlor, it plays bigger than I expected.

R Shane has a fantastic Egyptian themed cup and balls routine. Great story and surprise ending. You can find it in Pentalogy.

Great items Curator. I always know if I see your name, I need to scroll far enough to see what you've featured.
I designed a show for last October that was totally Egyptian. It was to be more a fun thing with a serious tone sprinkled about. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to complete everything required, but judging by your set, that must not be an issue here. Here's what I had planned: - A few tarot effects (with cards that play into the story visually) I have not posted about this, but Serial Thriller by Sudo Nimh would fit right in with some scripting. That's just me. But that wasn't out then. - I was constructing a scale that matched the ones usually depicted in Egyptian death chambers. I bought a wonderful feather from a Native American tribe (wasn't themed inappropriately,) and set them up for a no magnets weighing of the heart. An effigy of their heart (pulled from the zipper in the back of a doll I made) would always be lighter. Thus, no soul destruction (yay.) - I'm sure the Egyptian Gods pendulum might be well suited for such a show. I did perform that part. I'm learning that "start early" lesson myself. - then, sorta as a proof, a haunted doll acting as a medium reacts to the energies that skip past the thin veil separating us from the departed.... something like that. |

The "props" for the malediction routine.
It may be inspirational. And, as curious as it may seem, the most powerful amulet of the Egyptian world looks like a Lacoste logo. Protection against Set, the absolute Evil. |

You could think about an Egyptian Book of the Dead based Lazarus and/or golem routine.

If you can find Gummy Mummies, you can make a variety of effects for almost nothing .. However they seem to be sold out everywhere I look. The ones that come is a clear plastic sarcophagus ...

I don't know if you are into birds or if you could get into them in the target time frame, but "severing" a bird's head and re attaching it is that old. Supposedly dummy heads have been found in Egyptian graves.
May or at not fit your show, but it's Egyptian themed. |
