Percy Abbott brought the Neff C&R Rope out in, I think the late '40s. I think that it was the year that he had booked Bill Neff as a feature on the Get Together. Harry Jr. had not gotten back into magic yet, and, Percy and Harry Blackstone Sr. had had a "falling out" some years before. Percy, apparently wanted a "name".
I have a MIMEOGRAPHED sales sheet from Will Lindhorst (St.Louis, MO) which advertised the "Vanishing Bird Cage Rope Trick. It's not dated, but apppears to be from the 30s. My friend . the late Harold Denhard. was working in the mailing department at Magic Inc. in the '70s. He told me that he had been doing the "van. bird cage rope trick", long before Percy put out the Neff Rope Trick. I "played" with it, but, realized that it would be a hassle to do on a school show tour. I'm wondering if anyone else, remembers the vanishing bird cage rope trick.

Pick up the rope from your pocket or table and you are ready to perform it." I think that would be worth getting. . |

Several years ago, I "discovered" a method to do the "NEFF" C&R ROPE. As noted above, the SPECIFIC EFFECT has fascinated me for a long time, but, the "mechanics" did not "fit" in a school assembly program. My wardrobe was just too simple.
It has one "defect". The rope cannot be examined AFTER the restoration. It is great for a fast, flashy opener, or at any time. I've even thought of it for a quick encore. I have tipped it to one friend.

After "playing" further, with "my Neff C&R Rope", I have concluded that, it's just fine. There aint no need to pass the rope for examination!!!
In the Victorian era, parlor magicians would pass stuff for examination. The show stopped, while the "thing" was being examined. Life was simpler THEN! The show's TEMPO is just as important as the TIMING of the PRESENTATION. TIME is critical, too! (In vaudeville days, an act that ran overtime, was FINED! (Managers wanted to "turn the house" so that new customers could be seated. When I was working school assemblies, I knew that if I went overtime, the audience would need to leave! (buses, lunch!) I'm retired, but, I still do an occasional show, and, the minor set up gives me "something to do"!

In my humble opinion, the Robert Harbin cut and restored rope is superior to the Bill Neff version because it is simpler and can be performed in the hands of spectators who hold the ends of the rope. I described my own version of the Harbin C&R in a certain Journal that I'm not supposed to mention, and it can be seen on Vimeo being performed by my North Carolina Wiz Kids who are all wearing short sleeve shirts: https://vimeo.com/145756046 There's no need to pass the rope for examination when it is in the hands of the spectators all along.

Jim, whats the difference between you pointing out where in your publications stuff can be found and Harry Lorayne doing the exact same thing?

This is in retaliation for my not lowering the prices of my e-Books to accommodate him. $5 per individual e-Books and $40 for collections ($4 per 10 e-books) he regards as excessively high, never mind that Abbott's charges $4.00 per instruction set, and most others charge even more. Never mind that 100% of the money I receive (minus the amount PayPal charges for its services) goes to the author of the e-Book every month and not me. You can't please some people. However, you can always look me up in my profile and send me a PM or an e-mail and I will tell you exactly where to look on The Magic Nook.

Jim: Oh good lord! Really? This isn't right at all. The Magic nook stuff is fairly priced, and a lot of the time you go on to tell what to get to make this stuff from the dollar store right in the post anyway! Geesh.
BTW, what ever happened to Prof. Spellbinder? I haven't seen him about since I started back posting...

No, I've been around, years longer than you, but, I don't get mixed up. I can still write a coherent sentence. My 86 (almost 87) year old mind is quite clear, and, my IQ is just fine. If my physical health would allow, I could hit the road, tomorrow.
The method I'm using is an adaptation of another trick, which can produce almost the same EFFECT (instant, visible restoration)with an entirely different method, than the "vanishing bird cage" (Will Lindhorst) OR Bill Neff rope trick. I never saw the Abbott "Miracle Rope Trick, but, I assume that Percy renamed it, and, called it the Bill Neff Rope Trick. Perhaps my use of the pronoun,"It" caused confusion. (Antecedent reference!) I am quite familiar with the Bill Neff method. I experimented with it almost 40 years ago. It just wasn't practical for my needs.
