Hi,
I recently bought a cheap bicycle Svengali deck off ebay. I'm relatively new to magic, so I don't know if it's the real deal or not, but they feel oddly "rough" - very hard to bend (not good for handling) Is this normal? - I own a few other custom bicycle decks, and non of them have this issue, unless it's intentional. Also, is there any other place (preferably in EU) where I can get a better quality Svengali deck? Would anyone recommend Card-Shark's version? |

Please give a deeper description of rough.
Is it the edges? Is it the backs? The faces? Both backs and faces? The backs of half and the faces of the other? (this could be desirable) If so... Is it the faces or the backs on the indifferent cards? As for hard to bend, sometimes a deck just needs to be broken in, but why would you be worried about flexibility? Seems to me it would make it easier to riffle shuffle. But then again I wouldn't know if stiffer cards do make a riffle shuffle easier, I learned how to do it with a second hand SD in the 70's so wasn't old enough to take things like that into consideration. Honestly I would also recommend making a few decks yourself. It has the advantages like... Experiment with (how do I put this so as not to reveal) the feel, of the deck. Create the deck layout you want. Have extra cards to make F decks. Cards to replace signed/destroyed cards.

To experiment, just play around, etc. - making special decks - go to the the Dollar store and buy as many as you want- less expensive than any regular deck - just to play around with.

Also, the ebay seller seems to have cut them on his own, half of the deck that include the forced card is cut badly and not straight - also every edge on one corner of the forced card is cut a bit too much. Since I'm not familiar with this trick/deck I'm not sure if this is intentional or not for a standard size bicycle Svengali deck. At the moment I'm considering buying phoenix Svengali deck, although I'd rather have the bicycle design. I'm just worried that if I order from a magic shop, I'll waste more money if they come as the ones I got from ebay. |

Just so you know, a "real", "legitimate" Bicycle Svengali *will* have one edge that's thinner than the other. That's because USPC doesn't allow people to reuse their intellectual property: if you want gimmicked bikes, you buy bikes and then gimmick them. -- Hence, the image will NOT be 100% centered when you strip off one of the edge. No way to go around that. -- Or it will be "Chinese" imitations but then the cardstock might not be what you expect (and the printing might very well be worse anyway).

Quote: Yeah, I would make them myself. A paper guillotine with a card taped to it as a stop will do the trick. Make sure you get a self sharpening guillotine and not a drawn blade trimmer. You have to change the blades like crasy and will quickly end up costing more than a guillotine. I think they are also called paper shears.

Christian Schenk's Phoenix deck Svengali deck from Card-Shark is the best out there. Absolute same quality as their regular Phoenix decks.
Personally, I see little use for Svengali decks. But if you like them, Phoenix is the way to go, IMHO.

I have had good service from Vanishing Inc Magic. They do have a UK store. Is that close enough for you?
