PalmBeachGuy,
Hey nice reviews for Perfect Time III. I currently work for George Robinson at Viking Manufacturing, and let me tell you, the watches are just beautiful pieces, and look real. Not like the cheap imitations of the watches you have seen before. The thing I like about this is that nobody will suspect any trickery of any kind, since most of the time magic is done with cards, coins, silks, etc, and let alone you will use your very own wrist watch. Thank you for your reviews, and your instructions are top notch. Thanks BMWGuy

Hi BMWGuy,
Thanks for the kind words. It's a rewarding experience having my routine published, especially by one as prestigious as Viking! I've already received many kudos for it. In fact, they now have my name up on their website where it promotes the watch! http://www.vikingmagic.com/cgi-bin/dc.pl......;key=919 I have been using my Perfect Time III for some time now. As I primarily do mentalism with playing cards, it provides a nice break in the middle of my performance. I say that while I primarily use cards in my demonstration, I can also use other common items to display my abilities. I then introduce the concept of TIME and the things we use to measure it. I point to my watch and off I go! The ending really does blow them away. Again, thanks to Viking for the creation of this wonderful timepiece! |

Since I received my perfect time III two weeks ago and PalmBeachGuy's routine is a relatively new addition to the rotuine supplied by Mr. Robinson, my watch did not have PalmBeachGuy's routine. However PBG was kind enough to PM me to inform me that if I contact Mr. Robinson he would be able to email the routine. I look forward in reading and learning the routine by PBG as I am certain it is a very practical, strong and entertaining routine.
Just a brief note about the watch itself. It is truly a very elegant and first class watch. The mechanism is infinitely superior to that of Watch & Wear and other similiar models. I highly recommend this watch to anyone who wants to do a professional mentalism routine while looking like a true professional. Best regards, Michael

A few questions, please:
1)can the watch be handled by the spectator? 2)can the mechanism start, stop and start again in your fingertips? Thank you. Gianni |

Gianni,
I have handed it out to spectators with no problem. In fact, that's part of my routine. And yes, the mechanism can start, stop and start again in your fingertips. It's a wonderful way to "fine tune" the business. :) |

Perfect Time is great! Time Machine is a cheap knockoff made by those scumbags at Magic Makers (avoid them like a plague... they're thieves!). Search Café for Magic Makers to see what kind of scum you're dealing with when you buy their crap.

I contacted Mr. Robinson to inform him that my PT3 did not come with PBG's routine sicne I refceived mine prior to the routine being included with the watch. The same day Mr. Robinson was kind enough to email me the entire routine by Palm Beach Guy. That is what I all first class customer service. As a note, PBG's routine is excellent that includes nice, psychological subtleties that deflect any spectators' thoughts that the watch is gimmicked. I also like the precognition effect.
Best regards, Michael I also noticed on Viking's site that I beleive in June 2005 Mr. Robinson will be offering a version that is activated with a m----- in addition to the model currently being sold. While the soon to be released model has the ability to perform the effect without holding the watch, I personally like the fact that you can hold the watch on the current model by the end of the watch band which is very deceptive and allows for more control over the mechanism. I had the original perfect time that aloowed for the mechanism to be activated by the m----- but the watch had to be correctly placed in order for the mechanism to be activated. Sometimes it worked. Sometimes the placement of the watch had to be adjusted. While some may find good use for the soon to be released model, I prefer the current one. (Maybe I will get both to change from one to the other). Best regards, Michael

Like the sound of this and have looked at the pics I don't really like the watch strap can this be changed or is this an integral part of the watch ?

Scotty, let's just say that you get what you paid for. It is fabulous. The timing is perfect. If you can't stall for 70 seconds, find another avocation. Treat the watch carefully and it will last you a long time. I had the original version with the uh, other way of setting it. It was very awkward. This rocks. Mr. R is a standup guy and backs his products. The lack of a sweep second hand in no way has affected my performance or the effect on the audience.

A few months ago I posted in another thread that I have a no-touch method using this watch. It's suitable for formal vs. impromptu performance. PM me if interested.

Anyone else having this problem?
When I put on the watch to wear as my normal time piece, the act of buckling the strap sets off the mechanism and it just keeps racing around. Wondering if this has happened to anyone else and what they've done to correct it. Thanks, L. Zaslow

I've had the watch advance 5 to 10 minutes when putting it on or taking it off, but no more that. It has never raced around without stopping. By the way, Larry's no touch method is awesome!!

This looks like a dream come true. If this doesn't bring on gasps, its time to reevaluate the performance I am afraid.

I feel compelled to comment on several points made in previous postings. As the inventor of the "Blown Away" prediction pocket watch, my first design criteria was to eliminate ANY handling of the timepiece once it was placed down (AND BEFORE THE TIME WAS SELECTED). The other criteria was to allow the spectator to pick up the watch for the reveal and handle the timepiece if desired. In the eyes of the spectator, that is "REAL MAGIC" -- because the magician never touched the prop. once it was placed down. The other criteria was to have the flexibility of placing the timepiece in the spectator's hand and to give the performer several methods to trigger the device depending on performance conditions.
I do agree with others that if you use your own ring, key, watch, pen, etc., spectators could view that object being "tricked" unless you employ misdirection, handling techniques, gimmicks, etc. to nullify their thoughts going in that direction. It is our nature to try and figure things out, regardless of how absurd and flawed our logic may be. For example, when I perform "Blown Away" (pocket watch) or "Blown Away" (using a wristwatch), I DELIBERATELY MISS the time by two or three minutes -- although I can nail it to the EXACT minute while the watch does a complete cycle in 48 seconds. I do this because the trick becomes "too perfect", and "electronics" appear to be a logical explanation since the spectator(s) realize I never touched the prop. As we know, spectators at a WOW moment will attempt to conjure up any "solution" (even far-fetched ones). For example, when I perform before a small audience and "nail" the time, I sometimes hear the comment "it's voice controlled, isn't it"? And you know something, as silly as this explanation may sound, they are satisfied/convinced they have figured it out. But if I'm off just a tad bit (give or take 5 minutes), I NEVER HEAR THAT COMMENT -- because HOW COULD IT BE VOICE CONTROLLED? Of course, the best way to avoid this, if you're aiming for the bulls eye, is to ascertain the time without them verbalizing it. Personally, I prefer that method -- and use a secondary method of revealing that time. For the climax, I ask them to pick up my watch and note the time. That, folks, is "real magic". Obviously, I am deliberately leaving out a lot of details regarding the complete effect, patter, handling, and modus operandi, etc. I am simply focusing on two or three discussion points: (1) magic may appear to be more "real" if you can avoid handling it as much as possible, (2) being "perfect" in your prediction may not be in your best interest. (3) why encourage prop examination? To address another post, being an inventor of a variety of prediction pocket watches, wristwatches, desk clocks, and some with highly advanced technologies, I can say this without revealing trade secrets. First, you will likely never see one of these watches (mine included) with a second hand. There are good solid technical reasons for this. Also, while a watch could have a calendar, it would not be functional. And I whole heartedly agree with the post that there are so many varieties of timepieces available, that nobody ever questions why it doesn't have a specific "function" on it. There was a post that alluded to having a watch be handled by a spectator just before a performance. If the sole purpose is to imply / emphasize "normal watch", I would take exception. Even though all my timepieces -- pocket, wristwatch, various clocks, etc, -- can be examined, I never hand them out for "casual examination" at the very beginning. Why fuel any suspicion that it could be a "magic watch". It's like the amateur saying, "here I have an ordinary deck of cards", or "please examine these ______ (you fill in the blank). I do realize I'm speaking to the choir for the majority of readers. One last comment. You may find that you will get the best audience reaction if the watch is not the "focal point" of your presentation. It may be introduced at the beginning of a routine for a secondary purpose, unrelated to the routine you are currently performing. For a "Blown Away" ending, conclude your routine with a time previously written down during A PREVIOUS EFFECT/ROUTINE -- and have that same time magically appear on your watch. I solicit your comments. Best regards, Fred Hager Magicians Cottage magicianscottage@yahoo.com |
