If you don't want to spend a lot of money, buy Hampton Ridge's "25 tricks with a stripper deck" VHS video. www.thegag.com/hr-0015.html

The Stripper Deck is truly a great tool for the beginning magician. I had one when I started out, and it enabled me to do a ton of things that simply weren't possible with a regular deck. I stopped using it for a while, and then a couple months ago I thought, "I really had a lot of awesome tricks with that thing." I bought another one, and it dawned on me that I now can do any of those old tricks now with simple sleight of hand.
So, if you're a beginner, I think you should definitely pick one up. It really motivates you and gives you a lot of opportunities for magic that you'd otherwise miss out on. If you're experienced and know a good bunch of sleights, then you're probably better off with a regular pack of cards.

I believe Jay Sankey has a triumph effect that uses the stripper deck. I'm pretty sure it's called "180 Degrees" and can be found on Secret Files Vol 1. It looks like real magic. Definately worth taking a look at.

The stripper deck is the most powerful deck known to man, I sware by them - the best thing any walk-around performer can buy is a stripper deck.
The name of the game is to carry as many tricks as possible in the least amount of space, and with a stripper deck you can do any trick that you can do with a regular deck ... plus you have a trick deck at your disposal. It's like carrying 2 decks at once. I even have a special "magicians only" trick I do to demonstrate this, where I do a double lift with two cards facing the opposite directions.
The best trick I know with them is an "unshuffled" routine I do with the red's and black's. Shuffle the reds and blacks together then cut to red cards constantly, point out that they are all red (svengali style). Then show your actually cheating and all the cards are really black ... then just strip them out, right in front of their eyes. Slowly. Let them examine the cards.
I'll often follow this up with the very old trick where the four jacks rob the castle (I don't use that patter, but that's the trick) ... afterwards, I reverse one card, and then demostrate that I want them to use their first finger and thumb to strip the edge of the deck ... in other words, the spectator pulls the final card from the deck (not me). That generally leaves them floored, "you still don't know how it works do you?".
Also, you may wish to experiment with "Out of this World" using a stripper deck ... I do this, and it eliminates all of the sleight-of-hand the orginal routine called for because the reds and blacks are stripped when you hand them to the spectator. No, the spectator does not notice this from dealing position.

I think it's wrong to imply the Stripper DEck is only good for beginners. There are a lot of walk around and table Magicians who use nothing but the stripper deck. In my opinion when doing some of the more advanced stripper deck routines it wouldn't be easy for a beginner. It takes a while to get the feel for them.

I like the Stripper Deck and I made my own Acrobatic Aces with it. Sadly, I lost it a few years ago and since I am more of a Stage Performer, I didn't get a new one.

While I am not a beginner, neither am I an accomplished slight of hand artist (never was, and with the right hand getting inflamed through arthritis, never will be) so maybe it could do me some good. Thanks for the thought.
