It depend on whether you are talking cards, balls, etc. Geoffrey Buckingham was good as well. So, was Ross Bertram.

Yes- they were good. But so were lots of men.
We're talking about the best manipulator who ever lived! Cardini. |

mcbride and cardini are both very good, but i would have to choose cardini over mcbride, because mcbride looked up to cardini.

I thought Tricky Dick was the best manipulator of all time.

Although most associated with dove work, Channing Pollack was one of the best card manipulators ever.

I am always fascinated with McBride. I would give him more credit for his ability to integrate various types of drama and culture into his manipulation act.

What about Peter Duffie? To my eyes, that guy is as smooth as it gets.

I'm a huge fan of both Pollock and McBride, but as far as hands down manipulators (esp. considering that he invented so many of the moves we use now), it has got to be Cardini.

I think Jeff Mcbride not good as Peter Marvey.
Why...? Because Peter Marvey could open widely his finger when he produce the cards and Jeff could not do like that... It is showed on his appearence on WGM. So in my opinion, Peter still one ahead to Jeff McBride. Hengky |

Good point Brad. Although I believe Cardini to be a clear choice, Channing was definitely one of the greats- and even that's an understatement!

Lance Burton's FISM winning dove/manip. act is truly great in my humble opinion.

I believe there are manipulators from the far east that we have not had much exposure to. If anyone knows of any eastern manipulators could you please list their names?

Peter Marvey is a fantistic manipulator, but before you toss him up beyond McBride, just remember that he is using help. I have nothing against using what he uses (in fact I'd like to have one myself), but I'm just not sure I'd put his "skill" beyond McBride. Perhaps his inovation though, because he may have come up with the gimmick. Still, I'd have to put them on the same level.

Jeb,
Still I think Peter is better than Mcbride although I am a fan of McBride and I learned all my manipulation skills from his video. Are you sure he is using "help"? Is is not possible that he invented a "new move" so he could open widely his fingers when he produced the cards? I know that as a magician, we often think that a magician that "does a move" that we could not understand, is using "help" or gimmick but hey... why could we not open our minds, to the possibility that maybe he invented a new move, not a new gimmick. Just my thought... Hengky |

If you look close, you can actually see it. Notice the way he grabs the cards. I don't want to explain the method here, but if you pm me, I'll talk to you about it. Here's a hint: it's a new kind of catcher.
