I need a little bit of help here. My teacher wants me to do a magic show for the class on Monday. It will be my first show ever and will be the first time I've performed for more than a few people. There will probably be around 30 people and I will watched on three sides (At the front of the class). Everyone is around 13 years old (I am also 13). I'm wondering if anyone can reccomend any effects or give any advice to me. Any help is appreciated.

You should be performing your existing effects at this stage. It is too late to try new effects if your show is on Monday. Try to brush up on your current effects and make it flawless.

H_a_z is right if you try and learn new effects now you will be caught and caught and caught and caught on every new effect you try so stick with effects you know well.

Stick to what you know, and practice, practise, practise... The good thing about preforming for your calss is that you probably have some freinds there that you can trust. So try to get them involved, that way you can interact easier with your audience

Congrats on your upcoming show!
What effects do you currently perform? |

If you already have a sponge ball or (better yet) sponge rabbit routine, I strongly recommend you use it. Pick a volunteer who cooperates well, and reacts in a big way. Your class will love it.
As everyone else says, don't learn something new in such a short time. John

Jamie, I think it would be helpful to list down the effects you were planning to perform.

Well if you are really wanting to get a new effect, I would go with meto morpho spots. this is easy to learn and is around $15.00. but I would do the things you know best.

John,
I'm in grade Seven and have only done magic for about a month (Yikes). I've had a lot of schoolwork so I don't always get to practice magic. Jamie

I would do a routine with sponge balls and magic using the TT with silks. I am not sure how the card effects would work in front of this size group. Proffs nightmare would work, if I were you I would take some of the close up tricks to perform after the class is over, because there will be people asking you to do magic all day.

Thanks for the ideas b-gann. I never really thought about after the show. I think it's going to be late in the day though, so that's good. I was thinking of doing something with the slush powder (watch the demo on penguin magic for slush powder) and maybe CMH and maybe the Erazer trick. Any more ideas?

I agree you do not want it to be too long, but you could save things for after the show, for those who are interested.
and yes I would practice the routine untill monday morning to get all the wording and actions down. |

Another one jamie, you need to be psychologically prepared
just believe that what you are doing is really magic... be calm and don't get nervous... remember they want to enjoy your magic not to catch every move or sleight you do.. so don't be paranoid that they might caught you... best of all enjoy and entertain... and don't forget to take a bow |

If you've been into Magic seriously for a MONTH, and you can already execute 1/4 of the effects you've mentioned with ease, you're on heck of a magical wonder I know guys who spend months of perfecting things like Stripper Decks and T&R alone.
It sounds like you're set at this pont on what you want to perform, now is the most important part: performance and delivery, patter, etc. Most of all, don't get nervous,..remember you're 13, and it's a classroom, not primetime television But still igve your all. This is your art!
