I have a number of large stage illusion. Most I built myself or with the help of friends. I recently built a Super X suspension and it was the easist illusion you could ever imagine to construct!
I started with the Osborne plans and adjusted them to work for me and my assistant (wife). Then it was off to a local welder/contractor to have the metal work done. I had it beefed up so I can float others (it will hold in excess of 200lbs). I also had the contractor add a gooseneck so I can use a solid hoop (nice shiny and sparkly hula hoop for $5.00). I next figured out the cuts needed from the plywood and took this to the Home Depot. They did most of the cutting for me, for free, with the purchase of the lumber. My wife sewed up the curtain and cloth (bought on sale at a local fabric store)for the board. I took a heavy duty cardboard tube (the type used for pouring cement into) and cut it for the visible supports for the board. A ply top and bottom and a fancy paint job and that was that. The whole project, once I had all the pieces ready to go took less than 5 hours and cost under $400.00 Canadian (about $330 US or about 160 pounds sterling)! This is project that I think just about anybody can do without running into a lot of problems. All the best, Rob |

Bonjour Rob,
Congratulations on your Super X. I was wondering how heavy the metal gimmick is and whether or not you see any sagging when the assistant gets on? Does the gimmick come apart for transportation or is it all one piece? As you know I have an interest in suspensions. Mike |
