I have a prop with unburnished steel parts that have, in storage, gained a layer of white oxidation. Not rust; just oxidation.
What is a good way to clean these parts up? Steve

I play alto sax and have the problem of oxidation a lot I use steel wool recomended to me by a pro sax teacher. Although sax's are brass this should work for steel. I think. Maybe.

Oxidation on brass is best handled by cleaning the brass with brass polish and then rubbing Tung oil in the brass. This is from an old Rick Johnson column.

Turtle Wax Chrome polish. It'll leave a protective wax coat when done.

Hey no problem. The stuff works great on my motorcycle after a winter hiatus. The non-chromed parts polish up as good as the chrome with a little bit of effort.

Went to Meijer's and they didn't have the Turtle Wax chrome cleaner stocked, but they DID have Blue Magic metal polish. I tried it and it worked a treat.

Dr. Midnight,
There are cleaners and treatments made for metal workshop tools. Try a store like Rockler or Woodcraft, both of which are on-line. Kregg

I heard coke will remove and shine anything, just leave it in for a while. It also removes rust.

For chrome parts there is a product that bicycle shops sell, it comes in a red white and blue tub and is a very fine rubbing compound (unfortunately all of my stuff is in storage and I can't get to it right now). It removes rust, oxidation, just about anything from chrome. Very little elbow grease is required too. I used to get it as a kid from the schwinn dealer (Stingray days , but I've bought it recently and it still works great.
Hope this helps Alan |

The only stuff I have used that really works on all surfaces including glass and plastic is flitz. http://www.flitz.com/
