Hi all, I've been manipulating for a couple of months now. I spent some money on a handful of books and (a few vague descriptions aside) I'm quite pleased with my progress as I now feel pretty comfy with a basic false shuffle, hindu shuffle and a couple of false cuts.

The thing is that I keep hearing [reading] everyone talk about this "Z cut" all the time and yet I can't seem to find it in my books and I couldn't find any topics describing what it is in the search.

I'd like to know how to do it but I'm unsure if revealing how to do a flourish counts as giving a secret away or not. I mean most people can see HOW it's done, the impressive thing is the fluid motion, speed etc...i.e practice.

Anyway, if it is against the rules to explain it, could someone point me in the right direction please? Oh and I'm in the UK which may make a difference on the availability of books or perhaps even the name of the flourish? Actually that seems to be the most annoying aspect of learning that I've found so far, the fact that many people will call the same trick or move by many different names.

Any help would be most welcome, thanks.

I'm no flourish expert, to be sure, and I may be thinking of the wrong thing, but I wonder if you are referring to the "Z Grip". This is a basic starting position for several Sybil-type cuts.

The Z-cut is the preparatory step for sybil mechanics, however, it is also the name for a rotation cut which looks very flourishy. I believe both are described in Chris Kennars "Totally Out of Control"
"A magician is one who appreciates the difference between knowing how a trick is done, and knowing how to do a trick."

Thanks, I'll have a look for that.
