I have been seeing the same three words over and over again in magic books, magazines and (online) shops. I hope someone here can enlighten me on the exact definition of the following terms:
1. "Commercial" magic. What does that mean? That I can sell it? 2. "Floors" (as in "and it completely floors the audience"). Again, what does this mean? Do they actually fall to the ground? 3. "Killer" (as in "this is a real KILLER"). This actually scares me -- should I risk buying this stuff? I look forward to reading your definitions of these classic magic terms. |

Commerical - Can be performed in many/any situation, widely sold and used. OR AS SEEN ON TV.
Floors - The effect is "so great" that the audience will be speechless. OR The effect is "so stupid" that your audience will grab a broom and start to work as it is more entertaining. Killer - So deceptive that no one will catch on. OR Bored them to death. All three words are used to describe garbage in a nice and marketable way.

PhranQ,
The words and phrases are all marketing "hype" and, given the sorry state of a lot of magic being sold today, it needs all the help it can get! Usually it means stuff that is being sold to people who think the magic is in the props rather than in the performer! |

Over here in Germany, "commercial" usually means something like "highly effective for lay people".

Uli,
Well, that's what it is SUPPOSED to mean over here, too, but it rarely is! |

Peter,
I know what you mean. I'm so sick of the overhyped "marketese" that tries to sell a bad trick to unsuspecting youngsters like myself. I wonder if it is the same guy who writes all the effect descriptions? "Yadda yadda truly commercial yadda yadda it's a killer yadda and receive your standing ovation yadda yadda." |

You should be able to get it from YFD.
Unless, of course, that would be yourself. I didn't find it on your web site. Which is good. :bigdance: |

I like to buy the "Killer Commercial effects that Floors 'em", but only if they "Pack Small and Play Big!!!"

"No set up time, no reset, can be performed over and over again, no slights, no IT, no magnets,no skill, no brains, works automatically, mechanically and by itself."
I'm in for that!

The "ultimate trick" would be one that you could send to the show on its own and it would perform itself!
And you could stay home. Now, how long is it going to be before somebody starts advertising a trick like that? Note: I said "advertising", not actually making it! |
