Over the last few days there has been a lot of magicians in my town, street performing. One thing I noticed is they all seem to use similar jokes/one liners. Is there any good books for magicians with, gags, jokes, one liners, ect.

Chances are they are all using some of the early books be Robert Orben, a well known gag writer, writer of presidential speeches and responsible for lines like, "Notice my fingers never leave my hands." and other classics!
Also there is...keep this to yourself... a lot of STEALING that goes on among the members of the magical fraternity. Sadly, it will be only a matter of time before we hear about a better cheaper act. Frank Tougas

I guess punchlines and jokes comes with experience. You nv want to do a magic show without jokes. It be far too boring won't it? You can apply or improvise what you have heard before, it works better than memorizing them.
Of course, my favorite which works quite well: "Think of a card, is it the Ace of Spades?" "No." "Yeah of course." D.
Don't think too much.

I will give an example of what they where using. They would have an audience built up around them and if someone walked through during the performance they would say something like ''Your ok, its just a stage your going through'' or ''Would you like me to walk in on one of your performances'' That is the kind of stuff many of them are using, they all use the same one liners, but say it in there own way. So I figure there must be some sort of book out there with one liners/jokes.
I came across a book called: Slight of Mouth, does anyone have this or know if its good? http://www.daytonamagic.com/Books/BK046.htm |

It sounds to me like the Gazzo booklet, I think "Between The Lines".
The strange thing is after reading the book you pick up the way the lines react and are able to come up with your own. I think its a confidence thing I think. |
