Dorian,
Do you really need the wallet to accommodate an envelope? Because if not, there are a variety of smaller, hip style card to wallet wallets to choose from. But if you're looking for an ending for AC, simply pulling it from your pocket gets a great reaction. Damian |

Here's our LePaul wallet. We just tweaked the design to make them a touch smaller.
The current batch has very supple leather. I just got a new one for myself, I liked it so much.

My favorite is the real mans wallet.
It looks like a real wallet, unlike most magician wallets which look like small purses. |

OP set some interesting criteria; 1) Are cheaper; 2) Can perform card to envelope in wallet effect ADEQUATELY; and 3) Can be used as a normal DAY TO DAY wallet (i.e. it contains compartment for ID, credit cards, and bills) AND (since this is a discussion thread for Table Hoppers and Party Strollers I should imagine that he is looking for an instant reset version so he can perform the effect a number of times over the course of the evening/work shift.
I set the criteria as 1) Hip-pocket style wallet, 2) may be used to carry "everyday" items (credit cards, driving license, cash). 3) designed specifically for Signed-Card-to-Envelope found in a closed (zipper or snap) compartment within the envelope, 4) Instant (very, very quick) and open Reset and 4) reasonably priced. Impossible? Nope that wallet exists! It is another of England's Harry Robson's creations. He calls it the "H.O.W." Wallet (Hands Off Wallet). It fits all the criteria I outlined above. OK, the price (today 4-22-17) is $106.14 plus postage. We could argue that that is not a reasonable price. Let's see what you get: 1. The wallet. Superior design and very well made in quality leather by Tony Curtis. It appears to be an expensive piece of kit. 2. A brief instructional DVD. 2. Ten (10) envelopes (replacements will cost you $22 for 50 set up and ready to go - that's about 44 cents each give or take). I buy them 100 at a time. 3. ten (10) "gizmos" invented and designed by Harry that enables the trick to be done. You set up 10 envelopes using this gizmo and you are ready to reset the wallet on the fly. Why "H.O.W."? Why Hands off? Well Harry advertises that this is a wallet designed such that the spectator may be handed the wallet and remove the envelope themselves. And he's right, the spectator can but in all honestly a little spectator management need be applied (not much, it is a matter of insuring the wallet is kept flat and level otherwise there might be a time when the spectator might get a slight glimpse of the "pathway" of the card. Can't say more in an open forum. Reset: it is in fact almost instant. It takes less than a second (call it a full second) for me to reset it). It can be done fairly openly while traveling from table to table or from group to group. Reach into the pocket where you have the envelopes stored, ready and waiting, take one out and slide it into place in the closed wallet then place the (now set) wallet in place in the pocket you are carrying it. Done. Takes longer to explain it than to do it. On the DVD Harry notes that he does it openly so I gave it a try. It flies! I worked a small party and performed the signed card to envelope in wallet 6 times and reset as I walked around. First time I did it I was sweating bullets that people would call me on it. Nope it wasn't even noticed. I was (and still do) use the "shade" cover of my jacket. Quality of the Wallet? Top shelf! Beautiful and elegant. Hip-pocket design. There is a pocket running the length of the wallet for cash (holds American size bills with room to spare and you see the on the DVD that it holds British/European bills). There is three slots for credit cards, license, etc. and of course the snap closed coin-purse like compartment from which the envelope is withdrawn. Ease of use? Well it is a Palmed-Card-to-Wallet and there is that variable, but the "gizmo" guides you right into the sweet spot. Something to consider is that the gizmo must be removed after the card is inserted into the wallet so it is sort of a three step process (three beats), one the card is inserted, two the gizmo removed, and three the wallet removed. It does take a bit of choreography to get it done fluidly. I carry the wallet in a front pants pocket when working. I wear a jacket and don't like pulling the jacket up or off my hip being the only reason. It can be used from the inside jacket pocket, the rear trouser pocket, or the front trouser pocket with equal ease. I like the wallet, use the wallet, and I recommend it highly for the walk around worker, As a side note the "instant reset" was invented by Harry Robson and first appeared in the larger gentleman's pocket wallet. I have that prop too. I liked the concept so much that when Harry announced a hip-pocket version I jumped right on it.

Can anyone help me in finding out the maker of this Lepaul style wallet. All the info I have is that it was sent over from the U.S.A to the U.K approx 25 years ago.

Although it will show as been made by Lee Noble, I'm not so sure as I thought he only worked in Seville Cowhide.

I think the JOL plus wallet with the ID case instead of the envelope is a nice substitute. The envelope is just an additional layer of impossibility and so is the ID case. It may not be AS strong as an envelope but pretty close. Plus, when they see the face down card it gives you that "no way" moment as they start to realize it might actually be their card. You take the ID case out of the zippered compartment and let them remove the face down card themselves. That gives you plenty of time to do a deck switch, switch for an omni deck, file your nails or whatever else you have to do. Just my 2 cents.

You MUST look up Cody Fisher's brilliant substitute for the Bonsalopes with the JOL Wallet. The 'Eye Pad' ... patter you can guess... If I don't find your card, I'll give you a free I-Pad (Eye Pad)... great gag and works the same as the Bonsalope. Check it out.

Paul, Cody's tip on the Eye-Pad is a BONUS section on his 'Sweetly Sealed' DVD (coin in sugar packet).

Harry Murphy:
I second the recommendation for the HOW. I don't own it. I recommend it because I own the original Harry Robson instant reload. For a very reasonable price I was able to cut through a lot of BS and learn how to perform the effect. Alternatively, I could have spent hours on the Magic Café just figuring out what a LePaul Wallet is. That's the thing most Café members forget. If you don't have the budget or haven't read the right book, the words "lePaul wallet" don't mean much. So, for a small price I was able to perform card to wallet. I still don't know what a lePaul wallet is. Imagine what it would take to find out. I would have to buy it, or ask someone online where to find the routine for it. That could take ages. Harry Robson had a very nice DVD along with an expertly designed gimmick. And I was charged less for it because he was coming out with the MK2. Apparently some didn't like the finish of the original. The original was faux leather. So, I felt it was a kind of "training wheels" type of purchase... But oh boy the mileage I got out of it. It can be used as an everyday wallet, and I did use it as that. So it is now a little mis-shapen, but not looking too bad, considering. Based on the experience I had with the original, I would certainly purchase a Harry Robson wallet. However, if there is a more "grown up" and less "training wheels" type of wallet, then perhaps I would look for this Forbes Portfolio wallet. It looks nice. |

I currently use Card In Sealed Envelope in Wallet by Robert Swadling because I picked it up on a Hocus Pocus sale for $20 and it gets the job done and the envelope is completely sealed. It has slots for ID, credit & business cards as well as keeping bills flat and another space for spare envelopes. It's really big though. It fills up the entire inside jacket pocket but it will also barely fit in my back pocket just sticks out the top a lot. I'm not a huge fan of it because of the size but it's size and look have never been questioned in performance. I also just ordered a PET directly from Richard Pinner which is not necessarily a wallet but it does allow for a completely sealed envelope and can be used in the front trouser pockets. I haven't received it yet but I'm looking forward to using it when I'm not wearing a jacket for my other wallet.

Came across a Elite Garnier 3 function wallet by Camirand Academy. Had been looking for one for a while. Very smart and unassuming and not as tall as some. Although I still prefer the Lee Noble lepaul wallet for certain situations I can see this being used a lot.
