I think, that while his routine is excellent, too many people are over using it. It is no longer unique because to many people know it. Jeff McBride was complaining about this as well, and we both think that your efforts should be focused more on creating your own routine than performing someone else's.

Hi,
Many people don't know that Francis Tabary was an apprentice of FLIP (Hallema) from the Netherlands. If you can get stuff from FLIP (like his "latest" DVD release), then you learn directly from Tabary's master. Just my 2 cents ... Frank |

I did a competition act spoofing the Tabary routine and won every top prize. The best part was, two performers before me used the Tabary routine verbatim.

Christopher, what's wrong with your linking rings??? Hahhaha...
At the past World Magic Seminar someone on EVERY SHOW did Tabary's routine. Not only that Tabary was there and did his routine, which would mean, to me, DON'T EVEN THINK OF DOING IT. However, as MC on one of the later shows in the convention I did the new "Roped" comedy routine with the setup, saying, "I went to Tabary's lecture (I was standing there holding a piece of rope) and I missed one of the moves, the one where you ... (at this point I went into the routine where the ropes come out your sleeves, with the finish penetration, etc.) Worked for me...

Very funny...I use roped quite a bit. I've actually gone through three of them because of the ropes coming untied and the pulls retracting all the way.
I did a routine once based on the Tabary tapes. I said my volume wasn't working so I would try my best. I then did almost the entire routine using the long rope and the short red rope, of course there was a surprise ending. What I find fascinating is that I also have done Tabary's routines from his second volume (Ropes make up quite a bit of my act) and Tabary-phites have no idea what is going on. They learned the basic routine and never progressed, that's how I stay one step in front of them. |

Tabary's routines are long and not for kids. Dan Harlan has a fairly quick routine on his stand up tape.
It uses some of the handling of Tabary but is much shorter and has a comedy presentation.

Which of the Tabary tapes is ideal for family shows? Not sure which one to buy.

I love practising the Tabary rope routine, however, I've only used it once in an emergency situation when I had to fill in for eight minutes. The rope routine is exactly seven minutes in length and it went over well with an adult audience. I would never use it for kids or walk around because of its length.
I have the perfect rope for the effect sold by a company in Chicago. I'm not sure if it's Greater Magic or whatever, for I bought the rope at least 10 years ago and I'm still using it! Darryl the Wizard
