Hi

I live in Belgium, and the only place where I could find half dollar is my magic shop, but those are sold 2.5 euro a piece ! Is there any place I could find non silver half dollars? I tried eBay but it's all silver.

Non silver half dollars? do you mean American half dollars, or something else? I got mine at a bank. They are the silver American half dollars.

Xargos -> Go to the US Mint site, and order 20 new ones for about $30. They'll perfectly match any gaff from Johnson's on top of that.

As a lifetime US resident it seems rather odd that our bigger denomination coins seem so unpopular with the general population. Silver Dollars died years ago. The small dollar coins were down right hated. Half dollars are rather rare in circulation and almost no vending machines take larger coins.

Perhaps we should all pick up a few extra half dollars just in case. Even the dollar size casino tokens are being replaced with cash in receipt out machines. Most of the half dollars in circulation here now are the copper core type. Pure silver may be only available at the US Mint or coin dealers.

Doublelift is correct. Many casinos are doing away with coins of all denominations all together. It used to be so easy to put a couple of bucks into a fifty-cent machine and just hit "cash out" to have a handful of silver dollars.

The US Mint website is at: http://www.usmint.gov/index.cfm?flash=yes

The half-dollar coins (forget about silver dollars, they never seem have them anymore) are hard to come by in banks since they are rarely used anymore but can be found if you are persistent. When I walk in one I will usually ask the tellers if they have any. Sometimes I can find 1 or 2 that has been turned in with someones change.

Good luck.

Any US bank (if they wish) can get them for you. Many retailers still get then for change from customers now and then.

I needed six about a month ago and got them from going to about eight stores around the corner from our shop in Philadelphia.

The US Mint is the best place IMHO. All your coins will be new and will match perfectly as opposed to the event you get them from the bank/stores/etc, where you'll have new ones, worn ones, different dates, etc. Some specs do pay close attention to your coins, and they will notice the differences, trust me.
And as I said above, you'll be glad you have new coins when you get some gaffs later on. What good is a ] if it doesn't match the coins you have?

Just my opinion.

Which is why I use 1964 Kennedy halfs. In the United States they are easy to find at a coin dealer. They are not very expensive (about $2.50 each). You can had pick coins that are in similar condition. And, since half dollars are not a very common currency anyway, I find the silver coins make an interesting focal point during a magic routine. One other side note, is that I find silver coins to be easier to CP. They are not as slippery.

...for info on U.S. Halves, including a Belgian who can apparently find them easily for you.

I found a good deal a while back on e-bay for brand new rolls of half dollars, you can also get silver dollars or anything else. Happy surfing!
