It's not really made to instantly produce like the appearing cane. It's a gradual appearance.

Several years ago I wrote an educational school show that used the appearing pole. For my purposes the appearing pole was the perfect effect to communicate the point that I was teaching. So, I've been using the appearing pole in 200 school shows a year for 5 years. I've gone through a lot of them. I have a love hate relationship with this prop. I love it because it accomplishes what I need it to accomplish. It's magical and a relatively inexpensive prop. However, I hate that they aren't always compatible with a traveling show. Here's a point that I haven't seen anyone mention. COLD WEATHER. If you go to producel the pole after it's spent the night "un-expanded" in your cold car-it's gonna be wobbly and won't "produce" properly. What I typically do is take it out and expand it as soon as I get to a school. Then I set up the rest of my show. Shortly before the kids come in I put it back in it's unexpanded state. That warms it up and allows it to regain it's memory.
Also, my experience is that the 8 foot pole is much more stable than the 10 foot version. The 10 foot versions that I've had were more likely to be wobbly and not look as solid. I've probably bought about 7 poles in the last 5 years. |

I keep reading about the "old" pole versus the "new" versions or the "authorized" version versus the "unauthorized" version(s).
Is the "old" version and the "authorized" version one and the same? If anyone would supply names (and sources?) for these it would be appreciated. (Bill, are the "old" ones still being made or are all new purchases now going to have to be one of inferior quality?) Thanks for any info. Mike

Does anyone know what's going on with the sorcery manufacturing pole on penguin? I've been waiting for it to come back in stock but the dates keeps changing and not sure if I should continue waiting or buy it from a different website. I asked penguin and they weren't sure why either so was wondering if Sorcery Manufacturing was in short supply or something(never got a response from them either).

Then recently I got one that is several feet LONGER, and of course, that is even better. I believe it's eight feet, if memory serves. Man, when you pull that sucker out of a small sack, eyes pop!! Great kid's prop, and you can even use it in your grown up shows by just changing your patter. I can't live without it!
