Hi Dan,
Nice link, thanks. Noticed it was rather dark. Does it work solely in dark stage or alike conditions??? Or can it worked outside or lighted conditions? Also has anyone here have Jerry Andrus material, it's excellent optical magic. |

A well lit stage/parlor/or close up would be better for the effect.
I have done my own version of Zone Zero using Jerry Andrus ideas. |

Thank you friends. After viewing this I'm liking it more. Logically the reactions are
most positive. |

From the other thread in the Workshop:
http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......forum=26 I have made up several smaller disks for my own use (I've bought half a dozen of Bruce's in both cardboard & plastic) and can testify that the smaller disks work very well in small group settings. The smaller disk in closer settings replicates the larger disk in settings where the audience is further away (comparative perspective). The challenge in performing this for groups in close quarters is that you need to perform it more than once... I called Bruce about a year after he initially released these to suggest the smaller disks and he never called me back... Ah well.... I would recommend that he produce them 12" and 9" sizes as well, but I don't want anyone else doing it, so I hope he doesn't ever actually do it (and certainly doesn't credit me in the instructions). ;O) Andrew |

This is the worst effect in history please do not do this effect. At least in my area. OK OK its the best thing I have seen in a loooong time and I have to say the audience goes nuts for it everytime. I jsu twant to hoard it to myself for a few years that's all LOL:)

I bought mine from Bruce and it's exactly 14.5" diameter. As far as "bang for the buck", this gets an A+

Hello:
I've been using a drill with mine, and it works real well; I clamp down the bolt like you would a drill bit. But I noticed in the instructions that Bruce recommends a cordless screwdriver, and to just stick the round, threaded bolt into the screwdriver. How does this work for everyone? I'm looking to save some space. Ron |

Hey Ron-
I just stick the bolt directly into the little Black & Decker, Battery operated, Cordless Drill that I bought at Wally-Mart (Under $10), and it works great! The drills come in 3 colors: Orange, Silver or Black. It uses 4 AA Batteries. NO Clamping down, it fits perfectly! Easy in & easy out! Hope that helps! =Frank=

Same here. The bolt on the spiral is actually a little smaller than the hole in the electric screwdriver, but it works fine. I guess friction or inertia or something keeps it going around.

Thanks, Frank and Jim! I guess I'm going to start using the screwdriver, and save a little room in my case.

I also open all my shows with this. It really is an awesome opener and people that have seen my show, WANT to see this again. A great line for adult shows after making your head grow: These things are great in the bedroom! (Adult shows only!)
I threw away the cordless drill it came with as it made too much noise. I bought a really cheap battery powered screwdriver from Job Lot. It is a small one and makes less noise and takes up less room in the case . I bought a rubber cork and drilled a hole in the back of the cork (The thick part) and squeezed it onto the screwdriver bit. Now all I have to do is push the spiral onto the cork and I am ready to go. I have been using this version now for at least three years now and it works perfect. I also have the older version that Bruce originally sold with the stand. It was perfect for this prop but I guess he can't get them anymore. BTW has anyone ever tried doing this for nursing homes. It really doesn't work too well for the older group. You ask them to stare at the spiral and then look at your head, and they just stare at you and . . . no reaction. I don't even do this anymore for that group.

What age group is this most feasible with? I do family shows and I can't seem to get the "whole" audience to appreciate this effect.
My disc is 16" in diameter, has a geared motor and sets on a stand. I've tried this several times on stage and I only get about 50% positive results. Nowadays, it is just lying on my shelf.

In my experience using it, not everyone sees the illusion. I also get about a 50% reaction. Very young children don't seem to 'get' it. It also depends on the angle of the viewer, how far away they are, how well the spectator actually concentrates on the disk, and some other unknown factors. But even the 50% I consider a success, because they get the other people all excited about something incredible that just happened, and this makes the whole audience anticipating what I will do next (I use the disk as an opener to warm up the audience). Also, I actually tell them that not everyone will experience the illusion. Maybe it actually makes it more of a mystery to them that some people are hooting and hollering and others aren't seeing anything.

I finally added this piece to my current show and it has gotten a great reaction, with 90% or better of the crowd experiencing the illusion. It is definitely a great warm up illusion to start any show with. Here's a link to a recent performance of mine:

What I did to have it work for more people, is after they stare at the spiral for 30 seconds, I tell them to STARE at my nose. This gives them a focal point, and, you are telling them to stare . . . and not just look. There is a difference, when people just look at your head, sometimes they don't see what is supposed to happen right away and they look away too quickly, so by telling them to STARE at your nose, they continue to stare and I found that this makes it work for most of the people in the audience. You also get many people that don't concentrate too hard the first time, but after they hear the reaction of the rest of the audience, then they concentrate better the second time because they want to see what they missed.
Try telling them to STARE at your nose.
