Ewwwwwww...you are in trouble! You questioned the definition of street magic by implying Cyril doesn't do it!

Obviously you got me wrong.
If I do my rope routine on the street I don't do street magic. I do my Stand Up routine on the street no more than that. In fact, most of the videos of Cyril that I have seen, where indoors. And the other ones that show him on the street, require a preparation ahead of time which qualifies as stage magic. Street magic, as far as I understood it is showing tricks, that require little or no preparation and reset almost automatically. Street magic ist closely associated with busking, only, that a busker can work a much larger crowd (up to 500 people), while a street magician usually works for 1 to 10 people. Also, busking gets you money, while street magic gets you nothing, or almost nothing. |

What was street magic 12 years ago? Never mind...my head is starting to hurt again. Street magic on the street is stand up magic done on the street yet close up magic done on the street is street magic w/out the defining reference to close up.
Show of hands, anyone wonder why I avoid magicians? Steve V |

Hey Roland,
Just wondering...have you ever seen Cyril's TV series that aired in Japan?
The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed. - Einstein

To answer the initial question: Of course he is good. How can anybody say anything against the man?
To Unilogo: What I saw was flawless if you want to use this word. |

What is the different between Street Magic and Impromptu then. Is it that Impromptu can be performed anywhere?

The word Impromptu means "Out of the hollow/empty hand" Most cards tricks fall in that category, but also the Arm twisting thing, rubber band magic and so on. Again, NO preparation. @FatTony I have only seen the tons of clips at "youtube" |

OFTEN Cyril puts me to sleep. AUCTUALLY 99.8% of ALL magicians posses that skill when it comes to my personal opinion about them.
So CERTAINLY, NO HE IS NOT FLAWLESS. I saw this video of him doing an extreme bunjee(sp?) jump and using a SWORD to catch a card with a ton of cheesy looking props. On the STREET? NO WAY that is flawless. He is amazing with his developing of new effects YES I AGREE.He lacks overall. |

Cyril is very good at what he does, but you know we are all human so flawless a strong way to describe him. Sure there are days were he is flawless as we all are but as a magician we all have horror stories about our work and I am sure he does as well.

While Cyril is a great magician, very little of what he does could be considered street magic. Most of his effects are performance pieces... most of the good ones anyway.
Long story short, he's a TV magician for the most part. Probably the biggest reason that Cyril appears to be flawless in his performances, is that the effects he performs are not that difficult. The things I've seen him do were either like stage props (difficult to screw up), and things that could only be done on TV, or things like an imperfect floating dollar, crazy mans handcuffs, cig vanish, a T&R rubber band and so on. If you wanted to do these tricks, you could probably get most if not all of them straight out of Tarbell. If he was performing some very technical card or coin magic, then yes, I would say he's much better. (I'm not saying he can or can't, I've just not seen it) For some reason, Cyril just gets very, very strong reactions no matter what he does. He's a good showman I suppose. |

If you bring your own rubberbands it technically no longer qualifies as you came prepared, and that doesn't exactly qualify. Most impromptu magic really isn't. Has anyone seen the Washington Mutual TV ads with the old bankers and the WaMu guy teasing them with talk about free checking, no fees, that sort of thing? The old guys' reactions to such *radical thinking* is hilarious. It reminds me of a lot of the people here the way they react to seeing Cyril.
