I can attest to the strentgth of the telephone trick. I've been doing it for years, ever since John Racherbaumer published it in an issue of Genii or MAGIC (can't recall which). His presentation is better than the one seen in the demo for this new video, too. With Jon's version, the cards are spread at the end and the performer names the card on either side of the selection before naming the slection. It kills.
Don't know about the cutting bit, but I presume a breather.
It's all in the reflexes.

Holy smokes. I just a demo for the phone trick. I too, have performed this trick. I forgot I knew it. It IS good!
And the first? Man, I have Jaun's book. Time to go back and read through. (Although it sounds 'cleaner' I guess in the new version.) Just shows that there is tremendous treasure in what I already know and own. |

I remember reading it in Blaine's Mysterious Stranger. Correct me if I'm wrong because the method was taught in the book as well.
For those who believe, no explanation is necessary. For those who do not, none will suffice.

The method for which effect, zing?
There are 2 being discussed here. I do recall a simple effect that would work over the phone in Blaine's "Mysterious Stranger" (it's also a bonus feature on his DVD). However, it is not the same as this effect. This effect is far superior.

Does this version being released now 'Prime cuts' use a memorized deck? Also, where can we learn more about this Racherbaumer version? Sounds great

I learned the latter from my dad. I too, would be interested to know about the first. I don't think it does, but that's just specualtion based on the level of skill required.
It does sound good (and look good...the demo). |

You can find a demo of the effect over at Penguin. As a side note, Paul Vigil who is on the DVD is a great performer and all around good guy.

I can only tell you that I learned the effect from an old Racherbaumer article in Genii or MAGIC years ago. I do not recall which, but perhaps MAGIC as I believe he handled the "tricks" section for a couple of years. Couldn't tell you which issue, but I'm sure Jon could.
As for the first thing, a memorized deck and breather would do the job just fine.

Yah, but it says, on the ad, EASY TO DO... a memorized deck IS NOT EASY TO DO.

Greetings,
Meauxfeaux (love the name) good memory. Phone is a version of the old Eddie Fields trick. Richard Kaufman owns the rights and was kind enough to give me permission to publish this long lost classic. I've used the trick for years with a lot of success. We go through all of the work in extreme detail. If you don't have the Eddie Fields book published by Richard and Jon run out and get it as it's packed with solid working material. We included Phone as a bonus feature on the Prime Cut DVD. Prime Cut effect wise is also a classic. But the work on the trick is all new. Paul Vigil, Paul Harris and I jammed on the effect for inclusion on David Blaine's special. David performed the effect for Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers and had them screaming in the locker room. It made the final edit for the broadcast on Sunday night but got bumped during the live show parts...too bad because it would have been an excellent opportunity for everyone to witness the power this effect packs. Our version is MUCH easier to do than any previous version including maestro Juan Tamariz'. The work eliminates the outs which make the trick REPEATABLE for the same spectator or audience. When I do the routine I usually repeat it four times to four different spectators. The screams just get louder each time. We're shipping our orders today. The vendors will have it in stock very soon. |

You just sold me, Bob.
Thanks for the compliment on my moniker. I like it, too. By the way, recently picked up a used U3F. Love it! travis

I searched around and couldn't find the answer but is the Prime Cut effect impromptu? Or does it use a memorized deck? I was reading on the page and it didn't say anything about if theres a gimmick or setup. It just had the description of the effect. Thanks in advanced.

In Mnemonica its called Mnemonicosis and is on the bottom of page 97. Apparently it was Dai Vernons favourite piece that he saw Tamariz do....quite a compliment.

Yep in Mnemonica its called Mnemonicosis. It sure sounds pretty easy too! Now why would I pay for Prime cut if I've got the real deal? Thank you!!! I look forward to trying this gem out.
