I carry around with me, (in my briefcase) every day around 25 packet tricks.
I like packet tricks because they usually quick and visual. Packet tricks that have some sort of STRONG unexpected twist, are my favorites. Bicycle built for 5 for example. Later PW
After much soul searching about a signature, I decided not to have one.

I believe the number one packet trick seller was Color Monte, after that there were many..Paul Hallas has a book out called "Small but Deadly" dealing exclusively with packet tricks, if you are into packet effects it is a must have... The effect is the important thing, how you achieve it is not.......

Ron Frost was another magician who flooded the market with packet tricks back in the 70's.

I've forgotten more than I care to remember! My 'Bicycle Built for Five' cards stick now causiing me some mishaps - must get some more. But I do carry around the following:
Queens Out of Control (Griffin); Twisted Sisters (Bannon) and 8 Card Brainwave (Trost.) Yep, these come out of a pretty neat leather wallet as they lend themselves to that kinda housing. (read elsewhere) However, the following are taken from a 'regular' (yeah right!) deck: Ultimate 3 Card Monte (Skinner) Trik Kards (Trost) and Double Back (Allen) They don't all get used at the same time - (normally two but a strict maximum of three packet tricks per performance) |

I also like packet tricks of course the patter needs to justify why you are using a packet or you come up with a clever method or removing them from a deck. I've seen one member state for 3 card monte, he forces the 2C so he can justify removing the 3c and a red ace. BRILLIANT IDEA!
My favorites are as follows: Hold it buster using Harlan's word for word patter. In fact, the last line is "and I should have known better because my father never did play with a full deck!" So I say, let's try someting with a full deck. This is usually the 3rd trick in my routine. End of Story using Daryl's line that when he first use to start performing, he use to perform with only 4 cards. The rest of the presentation is basically all Bill Malone's. The story is funny and there are SOO many magical changes. This is the last card effect I do before I do the "I'm not an illusionist" patter by Finney. After doing an illusion or so and a couple mentalism tricks, I patter about how some magicians perform visual magic, some perform magic of the mind, ( From DARY'l crossed thought presentation), I then either perform TWISTED SISTER or RED SEA PASSOVER. For kids my Double back effect using roadrunner and coyote. Like Roger, 2 to 3 packet effects performance seem to fit in well. |

I only carry 2-4 with me in a little wallet, but I own 128! Good grief! I can't even imagine how much I have spent on them!
I really need to get a life. |

I own 425.7 packet tricks. I perform 2 or 3 regularly. A good packet trick is examinable, and entertaining. The point of a packet trick is to get the most magic and mileage out of a small number of cards. And since you are using only a few they can be suspicious to laymen as maybe ben trick cards. If its examinable that's always a plus.

I'm surprised no one realized I was joking. What is 7 tenths of a packet trick anyway. Not only do I not own 425.7 packet tricks but I don't think there are that many, well at least not that I know of.
More seriously Reis O'Brien- you have a lot of packet tricks, 128. For those really interested I do: NFW, 3 card monte, and an ace routine. later |

I guess I just like to sit down with new packet tricks, work them out, practice them, show them to a few people and then they go in the folders. Some people do crossword puzzles or build model airplanes... I play with packet tricks. |

A good tip that Boris wild suggested for organization or travelling is to put all your packet tricks in a cd case. This can be used of course for other things as well.

I actually got some of those clear pages that you can put in a three ring binder that people use to disply/collect baseball and/or Pokemon type cards. Each page has 9 sections. Then I used sticky labels to write the name for each effect on. I then have a closeable accordian file folder to hold all the directions alphabetically. I'm well into my second three-inch binder.
Seriously, people... I need to get a life. I'm not joking. |
