Hello,
I am having trouble removing scissors from my pants pocket smoothly. Where do you guys keep your scissors during the cut and restored rope? Thanks, Han Chung Lim |

I use a small pair of tin snips, and put them in my waistband at the small of my back during the c/r routine. I pick them and the rope up at the same time, then stick them back there to begin handling the rope. When my rope routine is done, I put them in my ditch bag.

The scissors appear when I need them, and then I toss them into the air and they disappear when I'm finished. That's Wizard-style magic on an old fashioned Jack Miller holdout. Blunt ends on the scissors keep me safe, even though the scissors themselves are sharp enough to easily cut rope.

Depending on the venue and the costume, I have a couple of solutions to the old where to put the scissors problem.
I have a leather holster (like a knife sheath) made for my scissors. It is worn on my belt much like a knife. It is out of the way, under the jacket, and easy to access coming and going. I have also built a holster into my pouch that keeps the scissors upright, out of the way, and ready to go. Again, they slide easily back into place when I’m finished with using them. I also have a magnet holdout in my back pocket that I will hang them on during a routine, so they go into and out play in the routine easily. I’ve actually been cut by a spectator as she handed the scissors back to me. BTW, I use my Miller holdout for other tricks. In a cut and restored, I want the magic to be in the ropes not in the scissors. I feel that it muddies up the trick to make too much happen. But, as I always say, I could be wrong.

I have always thought Gene Anderson's storage method is amusing. He pulls his tie aside and his scissors are hanging there on his shirt, up near the knot of the tie...I assume with magnets.
Of course, you have to wear a tie. Mark |

I don't need my scissors on me at all. I have my wife to help me out with cut & restored rope, and I let her do most of the cutting. That way, none of the children get cut or hurt with the scissors.
If I didn't have my wife to help me out, I would use the magnet idea in my back pocket. You can pick up some really strong magnets here: http://www.kjmagnetics.com/categories.asp

Han Chung Lim,
I Keep my scissors and rope in my brief case. When I bought the scissors, they came in a hard plastic case, which I tie 8' of rope around. I give the scissors to my volunteer while I manipulate the rope. When we are done, she gives the scissors back, I put them in their case, and we take a bow together holding hands. HAVE FUN Al Angello

I use a butterfly knife in my rope routine. I spent a few years when I was younger learning flourishes with a butterfly knife, and thought I would never be able to put them to practical use, until I started doing rope magic.
No, I don't work for kids very often. On topic, my butterfly knife fits neatly in my back pocket.

Tom Jones (not the singer, but of Wild Magic) has small scissors under his coat lapel...held there by "strong forces". Looks like match productions, but he can also put it right back!
