Hi everyone. I'm Dustin Baker, new to the Café. I was surprised to see so many names I recognize. Calamari, Alexander, Griffin.
I live in Pittsburg myself, a stone's throw from Gerry's hometown. I'd like to make it to the shop more, and do more performing there. Let me know if anything opens up Gerry. Also, I wanted to let you know, the new patter you suggested for Bleeding Hearts turned out great.
Think inside the box. . . it's less crowded.

Hi Rich,
Yeap, I usually only do Fridays at California Magic. I'll be pretty scarce there this month...I'm doing a run of shows at The Marsh in San Francisco, December 9-30. More on this soon! I'll hope to see you at Cal Magic soon, and Dustin as well--welcome to the forum!

I haven't gotten to perform there for almost a year now.
My last time was when John Armstrong was there. I've gotten to drop by periodically, but no where near as often as I'd like. Good luck at the Marsh. Just a note: If anyone on this forum (who is in the Northern California area) hasn't been to California Magic, you NEED to go. At least for the day. The place is awsome.

An awesome show just opened at the Berkeley Rep. It is called "All Wear Bowlers". It is a delightful piece of quirky, avant guard theater with some absolutely beautiful magic interspersed here and there. Trey's egg from mouth productions are the best I have ever seen!!!! Likewise for their stepping into and out of an ongoing movie. Brialliant timing.
There is also a sequence called "Nothing" which has to be seen to be believed. It is magic in EVERY sense of the word. As for the show it would be hard to give it a solid description. The best I can formulate is imagine Laurel and Hardy combined with the whimsy and visual crispness of Magrite then spiced with a sprinkling of very skillful slieght of hand. The show has gotten rave reviews in New York and at the Edinborough Festival. Don't miss this very refreshing theatrical event which puts magic in a very good light artistically before the public. Check http://www.berkeleyrep.org for details Cheers, Tom |

HI Michael,
I had a blast. Had some nice Sushi just up the street, and got some present shopping done. The area is crawling with more and more higher quality restaurants every year. |

I agree with you about the area Tom. The Downtown Restaurant is right there, pricey, but very good food. We just ordered our tickets for 12/17. Best.

You will have a blast.
Downtown was packed with happy diners and I didn't plan for that much time before the show. It sure looked good though. It runs until Christmas. |

Hi Guys,
As Walt mentioned above, my show "Magic Holiday" runs at the Marsh in San Francisco this month through December 30. "Magic Holiday" is a family magic show that I perform with guest artists Stefan Fisher (Dec 19-24), Kim Silverman (Dec 16 and 23), and Walt Anthony (Dec 16). We just finished off our preview weekend with near sold-out houses, and word of mouth has been excellent. The show will be spotlighted on the show "Inside City Limits" this week on SF Cable channel 11. If you know of any families looking for something to do with the kids over school break, we're ready to amaze! Based on our first weekend, I strongly suggest reservations if you plan to attend. Details below: Magic Holiday @ The Marsh San Francisco 1062 Valencia St @ 22nd Dec 9-30 Sat/Sun,December 16 and 17 Tuesday-Sunday, Dec 19-24 Tuesday-Saturday, Dec 26-30 All shows at 2:00pm Tickets: $10 ($7.50 per person for parties of 4 or more) 24/7 Ticket hotline: 1-800-838-3006, or go to http://www.themarsh.org. Hope to see you there,

I wanted to invite any Bay Area performers to the 6th Annual San Francisco Variety Performers Holiday Dinner. It will be at the famed Tommy's Joynt on
Geary Boulevard, San Francisco, Thursday, December 28, 6:30pm. This is a no-host party. Buy your dinner downstairs and come up to the private room upstairs. If interested in coming please PM me. This is not a magic event but open to all variety performers in the area. Thanks, Jay Alexander |

Jay, great performance the other night at California Magic! We thoroughly enjoyed it. Of course, we watched your DVD the very next day! Thanks for autographing it for Dan. He loves having all the magicians at Calmagic either autograph their DVDs that he buys or a deck of cards. You should see the collection!
Thanks also for taking time to take a picture with our daughter. She is still on cloud 9 over winning the 2006 SYM Performer of the Year award! She's been walking around with a silly grin ever since and it has just motivated her all over again to start working on some new material. If you want to check out your picture with her, go to: http://magicbydanielle.blogspot.com Again, thanks for a great night of entertainment! |

Our daughter has expressed an interest in perhaps entering some youth magic competitions. Does anyone know of a good place to find out where these events may be held in the Bay Area? She is 13.
Thanks, Dan |

Dan:
I know misdirections magic shop (www.misdirections.com) has a compitition each year. The owner (Joe) is very knowledgeable about the san francisco bay area and national magic stuff. Also I am pretty new to the Sf area and would love to socialize with some local magicians. I live close to misdirections and spend far too much time there..but enjoy every second. I am an amature in the magic realm but very commited to the art. When I am not at Misdirections I work as a RN at UCSF. I recently registered for MagicLive in August and would love to chat with folks who are going or who have gone. -Brian |
