Wow, I really cleaned up @ the OMC magic auction.
HOWEVER... Magic auctions are truly a Caveat Emptor affair. A few of the items I bought were not complete, missing items. ETC. Nothing tragic or enough to make the tricks un-workable, but all stuff I'm going to have to replace from the office supply/hardware store before performing  All in all, I could not be more pleased. You folks truly brought out some of the best stuff for the right price.

Speaking of California Magic...
Come join us this Thursday, April 19, for an evening of magic at California Magic Dinner Theater to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The evening starts at 7:30 with dessert and close-up magic, followed by a stage show featuring Larry Wright, Gerry Griffin and David Hirata (yeah, ok, that's me), and it's all for a good cause. California Magic Dinner Theater is located at 729 Castro Street in downtown Martinez. Tickets are $30 and can be reserved by calling 925-374-0056, or go to the website, http://www.calmagic.com. I'm looking forward to Greg Wilson, too. Also the upcoming shows by Dave Cox and Chris Mitchell. LOTS of great magic to see there!

Hey Dave, if you happen to be in that afternoon: See you there. Sadly, I won't make the show (or the lecture on that Wednesday, CRAP!!!).
Think inside the box. . . it's less crowded.

It was great! Sorry we didn't see you there. The lecture had a great turnout! Of course, as always, we spent too much money! The three of us all took something away from the lecture and we found Mark to be very informative and delivered the lecture in a very humorous and entertaining way.
Danielle has a hard time with closeup and she really got a lot out of it because he taught that you don't always have to be a master at manipulation to be impressive. She liked that he showed other "ways" to do things. Again, a really great lecture -- and another wonderful evening at Gerry Griffin's California Magic Theatre. Don't forget --- next month Danny Archer will be lecturing. I'll be sure to post the details as it gets closer! |

Capeheart was great. That coin thing was awesome. The three card trick was very cool. And he gave us lots of real-world tips on handling street crowds.

Hello CA Colleagues!
Just to say… I would -time permitting- be happy to both help produce and perform in a “Non-denominational” Northern California Gala Show. It’s just over a year since I brought the ICBM Gathering here to San Francisco for a weekend of workshops and shows, and I think I’ve just about recovered from that massive expenditure of time and energy <grin>. In case you have not heard Fred did find a new venue downtown for his “Magic and More” …so that will be ongoing. If anyone seriously wants to talk about putting together a high-quality show with maybe some dozen acts, and can stand my bad-a** perfectionist attitude, email me and we can toss ideas around. Magically, Walt http://www.spellbinderenertainment.com |

I highly recommend Christian Cagigal's new magical performance piece, "The Pandora Experiment", which opens at the EXIT Café theater (156 Eddy St. in San Francisco) on Friday, June 8 at 8:30pm. The show runs Friday and Saturday nights through June 30.
Christian is a terrific deep thinker about magic, and it shows in his performance. He combines his knowledge of theater and magic into some wonderful performance pieces. "The Pandora Experiment" could be described as a play about an encounter with "the other side", told through magical vignettes (I don't want to get too specific, for fear of ruining the experience of the show). Christian will be performing classics of magic and mentalism, presented with a theatrical sensibility. It could be described as Bizarre Magic, although I must say that Christian has come up with an approach that I think will avoid the worst pitfalls that too often kill Bizarre Magic (i.e., long, unnecessarily talky presentation,; silly mythology, and poor magical technique). I understand he's workshopped some pieces of the show in SF over the last few weeks (if anyone saw these, go ahead and chime in). I haven't seen the work, but did a couple of brainstorming sessions with Christian, and the script sounds wonderful--I can't wait to see it, and will be in the audience on opening weekend. If "The Pandora Experiment" lives up to its promise, I think it will be the most delightfully fascinating--if not the absolute best--stage magic event in the Bay Area this year. Tickets to "The Pandora Experiment" are $12-$20, and you can get more info at http://www.sffringe.org or by calling 415-673-3847.

I can't wait for Christian's new show! His "13 Steps" show last season was great! He's really moving forward, and opening up the idea of small theatres as a viable venue for magic again. This can only be a good thing! My only regret is that I won't be there for the premire!
