Greets fellow Mage o' the Light...
below is an excerpt and the link to a most fascinating interview with Eugene and David Parr re: TONY ANDRUZZI... this is a must read, as details on the ol' Masters life are scant... does anyone know how he left his body? was it his tobacco smoke he loved so well? either way, he lives--lives thru our passion and love for the beloved Craft we all desperately try to keep fresh yet ancient; new yet timless; bizarre, yet, to us, strangely ordinary... come on, lets talk ANDRUZZI!! "DP: If being a magician 24 hours a day means that magic is a part of me, a part of who I am, then I totally agree. I grew up with magic. It has been in my life and my thoughts since I was seven years old. So it would be true to say that there is never a moment when I am not a magician, because magic is an inseparable part of me. And the public has a certain expectation that we are capable of performing magic at any time......" http://www.magicbeard.com/view.php?id=2 |

By the way, I spoke with George Robinson of Collectors Workshop a few weeks ago: he's currently hard at work on an Andruzzi collection. Start saving now, folks!

Cool. I was wondering if they would ever come to terms.
So I take it the family is happy? |

Hey folks. I'm glad the article is being rediscovered and appreciated. We should keep talking about Tony. He was one of a kind, and I'm sure his example will continue to inspire magicians to make our magic a little weirder.
While we're speaking of Tony, I must say that I find it difficult to understand why anyone would have a problem with honest discussion of his death. It's no secret: Tony openly and deliberately drank himself to death. This is not disrespectful heresay, it's a fact. Several months before Tony was hospitalized he remarked very calmly to a number of friends that he would not live to see the following year. And so it was. After the fire and Gloria's death, Tony decided to exit this drama and he was quite honest about it. We should be honest about it too. |

Exactly! Tony was an unrepentent iconoclast. Ross Johnson who visited him often as he lay in hospital awaiting his slumber Ross asked him if he had it to do over again, would he change anything. Tony smiled, slowly shook his head negatively, and said in that great voice of his, "No". He will not be forgotten. He is an Immortal. I know this to be a fact as I have his visage (along with Charles Cameron)inscribed on my certificate of membership. Plus he sometimes comes to me in the night. Ye Mage is dead...long live Ye Mage. Reminds me of my Mentor, St. Georege, who , in his own right, was a bizarrist long before the term was ever bestowed upon us....they say he too drank himself to death--theres something about the psyche of one, who becomes larger than their lives--e'en, if its on a NYC block, as per Ol' George...
at any rate, these forefathers of the Craft live, no doubt... |

I treasure the glossy that Tom (pre-Tony) sent me years ago. It's both a comedic and tragic harbinger....he rests his face in one hand and drapes his other arm protectively over all the bottles which have magically multiplied. He gazes at the camera, resigned and bemused... the classic clown. I am always struck now by how much he resembles Gaetan Bloom. I have always been very grateful for the words of encourgement he gave me. His transformation from making people howl with laughter to scaring the pahookies out of them is true turban legend.

I was contacted by Paul Britt's daughter (I live in Albuquerque) to handle the disposition of Britt's magic. Going through the equipment, of course I came upon that terrible chemical used for the Smoke Anywhere, Anytime.
I informed the family of the dangerous chemicals involved. Rather than shipping his equipment to a used magic dealer, I contacted the late Brian Flora (also living in Albuquerque) to handle the sale of his magic.
