Curator, my hat is off to you sir, your book was a huge inspiration to my collecting and you have inspired many of us to become "hauntique" collectors. They get the creative juices flowing.

When looking at the vases the things that came to mind was IT or just T work, slush powder and even a two cup C&B routine.

Open the book in front of some object. Then show that the object is corrupted ...
It may be a fruit (switch a fresh apple for a rotten one) or anything else. Switching an object behind the covers of the book must be very easy (Kellar hand sounds familiar ?) Or another application of the zombi ball principle... |

I really enjoy seeing the props that others use. Sometimes I get very envious. Seriously, I find the inventiveness of bizarrists and their use of often unlikely objects in curious ways to be one of the most interesting aspects of bizarre magic.

Okay here is one of my unlikely props that I dearly love.
A few years ago I was strolling down 58th Street in Manhattan and I came upon a young woman struggling with an old travel trunk. The trunk had been left in a dumpster. She was trying to salvage the antique trunk by dumping its contents back into the trash bin. The trunk really looked traveled and had a mysterious compelling vibe. A nearby doorman explained that an elderly woman had died in the building, leaving no family and now her possessions were here sadly scattered in the trash. I helped the young women put the now empty trunk into a taxi and she took off. I scooped up a stack of old envelopes that fell from the trunk and took them home rather than leave them to the trash. The envelopes were filled with dozens of remarkable photographs that traced the career of Patsy Kell. She had been a vaudeville child star with aspirations of being in the "pictures", she made it into the chorus of at least one film musical review. The photographs were an odd treasure trove that totally appealed to my interests in old show biz...but the "Hauntique" item I found in the last envelope, among some rather racy 30's photographs of Ms Kell, a single bejeweled pastie. I call it "Patsy's Pastie". I imagine it was kept near to her heart quite literally and held some memory of love lost or found. I use "Patsy's Pastie in a routine inspired by "The Seventh Object" by our hero Christian Chelman. "Patsy's Pastie is in the center...the pearled object... |

Heck, if I coulda figured out how to do the toaster thing - I would have - instead I got an expert who builds these things (as well as B9 robots from Lost in Space) to rig one up specifically for a Q&A act... one day, when I get around to writing up all the TZ routines I developed, this will be included!
OK - more people - share your props! (By the way Eddie - love yours as well) And Gede - the pics in your Vodou book display you too are a keen artifact maker/collector (Heck, this thread should get big and graphic out of controllllll)....

That's a wicked fun looking box and I can sense the sounds of pinball nearby.
Do the fortunes pop out of the side? |

Nope - put a penny in - pull the lever, a mechanical whirr and a slip of paper with an answer appears...
Go see the TZ episode Nick of Time and come on back...
