Of course with good audience control you can duck this but I'm never really happy doing that. I actually think 'decisions' is a great idea, but sadly, not for me. Bobser

Bobser,
But you absolutely CAN hand out the cards at the end if you really want to! Best, James |

I doubt Derren's method is the same as Decisions.
Anyhow, at the start of the routine I perform, the cards are handed to the spectator to begin with, so they can see and feel that they are normal. Thus so far so good; nobody has asked to touch the cards in the middle of the routine. After all, the focus isn't on the cards while the routine is performed, it's on the processes I go through with the spectator; the cards are just flashed casually at the end of each phase to confirm the results. Incidentally, I made up my own set out of blank business card-stock using a "Tick" and a "Cross"; I make general statements while apparently lying or telling the truth (committing myself with a card each time), and the spectator somehow manages to accurately tell if I'm lying or not. Kind of like the other way round - I just like having some routines where they feel more like the star, even though they know at some level I made it that way.

I'd hate to do this, but for starters if you compare the size of the circles on Derren's cards; the YES cards' is significantly bigger than the NO card. Also the fonts used on his cards are way too big for the method of Decisions to work well. Also in his version the final card can be turned over by the spectator rather freely.

Perhaps not the actual Mozique cards, but surely the same principle.
Having the spectator turn over the final card is not necessarily a problem with this effect if managed properly...

Don't you just hate it when the audience turns vigilante and burns you alive?
I suspect James meant making use of the natural S**tch in the routine, as opposed to inspiring a bit of mob justice...

Hi just to confirm Moziques version is different to the one Brownie used. It would be impossible to duplicate it in the same context and environments that Moziques can be performed

Bobser,
Virungan is correct - I wouldn't hand out the gimmicked card. But to be honest, I've never needed to. If you play the routine properly, they really don't suspect the cards. However, we obviously don't perform for the same types of audiences! Here in Washington, DC, if they don't like you, they send you to Guantanamo Bay! Best, James |

Yeah - I wouldn't and as mentioned in my earlier post, never needed to hand the gimmick out. Although in the accompanying booklet I recall Ran Pink's routine mentioning the spectator is allowed to flip the gimmick over. I guess that's fine if that's all they do... but if they should pick it up... OOPS.

In the Brown video it looks as though he has no problem making the "change". The turnover seems pretty fair. There is no w**ing action.
But I can't seem to find a way to pick up the card with one hand and make the change along with the turn over. There is a delay. Is this a problem with anyone else that performs this Brown version or any version? John |

I keep the prediction face-down in my hand and table the unused card - problem solved, (my routine is really different from Derren's though.)
I also genuinely try to anticipate the answer so I can do the dirty work before they're finished formulating the reply (head movements often start before they say yes or no.)

At the onset you would've already conditioned them to the action of picking the card up, pausing then turning it over (when performing a few preliminary sequences with the ungimmicked cards). Thus when it comes time to actually do the change it should be an easily accepted action. That said, I have a handling that doubles up the speed to do the change. PM me for details. I often finish by handing out the ungimmicked cards to the audience member and just trying to geuinely read them.

I have recently revisited this and have having some fun with it. I really like the props but never had the occasion to use them. I am now.
How is everyone else doing with Decisions? John |

I've used it at every table hopping gig since I first purchased it back in 2007. One of the great, great products in mentalism, easy to use allowing full concentration on performance 10/10. There's also a radio clip of me performing this here: http://www.magic-man.com/media.htm. Just click on the Southend radio logo a little down the page. I only had time for two goes but you can see how the reactions are to this great effect.
