I found this on a website a few years back...........
D.W. "Chip" Denman is a statistician who manages the Statistics Laboratory at the University of Maryland. He was one of my co-founders of the National Capital Area Skeptics, of which he was President from 1986 until 1992. The following script is short and to the point, but provides a terrific hook that crystallizes the imagery of the effect. Chip clinched his job interview at the University of Maryland when the last of a panel of interviewers noticed that magic was listed as one of Chip's hobbies, and asked him to perform something. He did Card Warp. "The Twilight Zone" D. W. "Chip" Denman © 1994 You are about to enter another dimension, a dimension of sight, a dimension of sound, a dimension of mind. Please fold this card exactly in half and crease it. You will travel through a land of shadow and substance, of things and ideas. There is a signpost up ahead ... your next stop ... the Twilight Zone. Nee-neeh-NEE-ne nee-neeh-NEE-ne etc. [Here Chip approximates - very roughly indeed!-the infamous theme music from Rod Serling's "The Twilight Zone."] Consider the case of one Jack-of-Clubs, an unremarkable, unassuming playing card. But today this card will be forever changed as it reaches an unexpected turning point ... to be altered for all time by a simple twist of fate. Confused, this card will question its own background... Distraught, it will question its own face. Pushed to the edge by questions without answers, this card will go half-mad. This card, another helpless pasteboard, torn between two worlds. A mystery, submitted for your approval, here in the Twilight Zone.
You know how to make God laugh?........... Tell him your plans!!!

Thanks
It's funny. I've always loved card warp, worked out warp one from the clip and love it too. but all the patter about twisting reality just sounds silly coming from me. I suppose that's just the way it has to be. |

In my view, you've either got to have a plausible (i.e. realistic) sounding plot line or an obviously nonsense plot line either in story form or whatever played totally tongue in cheek. For example, using a "time travel" theme but played straight is in my view an insult to the intelligence of the spectator and therefore don't be surprised if the response you get is muted because of this. In my presentation I claim that it is a puzzle someone once showed me in which you have to place one folded card within the other (both faces outwards) and by simply folding and unfolding the cards together end up with one card face outwards and the other back outwards. You say that you can fold and unfold the cards however you like, so long as the surfaces of the cards do not lose contact with each other in the process. Just as the spectators are grasping the task at hand you show them that although it sounds impossible here's what you do... Here you continue the trick as per instructions continuing the patter line how you wish until the end of the trick. This patter line works for me because it keeps it real and doesn't patronize anyone with obviously contrived concepts of what you are doing.

I use 'perception vs. reality' as the theme for all my effects. This one is a natural.
