There are knockoffs everywhere. The place were you bid on things ( you know ) don't want to say it here, is the worst place for all of them. The worst part is if someone buys a knock off on there then sells it as the real thing. I don't ever buy on on there anymore.

Good point. I'd assume you mean eBay, but I can't imagine why you wouldn't want to name it, so maybe you mean somewhere else. I haven't been on all that many magic auction sites.

It's not whether they are allowed to use John's name and original ideas/designs - the questions really is whether John or anyone else has the $$$ and time to fight them all.
It's like whack-a-mole I'm sure.

I do not own QB2 and one day I hope too. But this is a video of our friend Rich Mendez doing the effect at my Diaper party and I have to say its pretty legit!!!

I don't want to unfair to a original inventor but at the same time we operate in a free enterprise system. If an inventor makes a product, not just for magic but anything and doen't want it copied then I suppose they have a responsibility to protect it but whatever means the law allows. When that is not done then whose fault if it when others make different versions of it? Especially whern it becomes clear that the profit level of the original inventor appears to be very high on their product. Second, lunatik's response to Joshua (page 24) was that the site Josh reference to was making a knockoff. That could be true. However he furthered stated that it was trash and most people buying it tossed theirs in the trash can. Lunatik must have bought one then otherwise he can't comment on the difference between the two items. For all he knows they operate almost the same and may very well be almost identical. From what I can see in pics of QB's these items look almost the same. They appear to operate the same. However their is a pretty big price difference which does not necessairly mean its trash. Playing the Devil's advocate here its just as possible that the original item was overpriced. I be curious if Lunatick has both items if he could tell us what the difference is.

The knock off's quality is sub par, very obvious when handling them side by side. Without going into major details on a public forum, I'll just say that the knock off is very loose and the tolerances aren't where they need to be, it leaves a major marking on the quarter. With this in mind, the quality and longevity has been compromised imo. You definitely will get what you pay for! Hope this helps Tennis, great questions

On another note, you seem to support the lack of morals for the sake of saving money. Almost everyone that has a QB2 says that it's well worth the asking price, so that argument falls short. I hope your conscience can be changed as your thoughts are very frowned upon in this community. Please clarify if I misread your post

As much as I hated to do it, I actually bought a cheap knock off. Let me say that I do NOT support doing this, but as the original inventor of the device, I wanted to see exactly what it was and how it compared with a genuine Quantum Bender. Also, that way I would know exactly what I'm talking about.
At first glance it does appear to be somewhat similar, however there are quite a few differences. I don't want to expose too much here on an open forum, but I'll tell you a few things.
With the knock off, right out of the box, the center of the pivoting joint area was heavily rusted, due to it being cheap steel, rather than the high grade stainless steel. There was a considerable large space between the two halves and it also has obvious low tolerances everywhere. It did leave somewhat heavy marks on the coins as well.
The Quantum Bender has been "tweaked" and adjusted over time. It actually got better over time. With so much experience and time invested Into it, I've figured out the small stuff, the smallest details that actually make the biggest differences. Things like the correct chamfers and radiuses on the correct corners etc. There are also other differences that I won't go Into here. It is exactly that, a CHEAP knock off. Also, the knock off did NOT come with my DVD with tons of useful tips and info, from care and maininence, to handling techniques, to routining ideas, etc, etc.
When I first started selling the Quantum Bender, it was over a decade ago. It was a different world, and magic was different too. I was younger and I believed in the good in magic. A "brotherhood" and a society of magicians with strong ethics. Well now Im disappointed, especially with all the knockoffs, and Yes, I would do things differently if I had a time machine. Maybe next time I might not even share my best stuff.
The price point was set to allow this prop to have a smaller group of people performing it, rather than everybody with a buck. This was meant for the professional or the serious amature. Not the kid exposing everything on YouTube. To a true professional the investment is nothing at all, and pays for itself in no time. Some of the biggest names in the industry use the the Quantum Bender regularly. People like David Blaine who use it all the time, and who also performed it on his ABC tv special.
Now I almost feel like this thing has turned into a "free for all". That's so uncool, and that's NOT what I wanted to see. I've got allot of blood, sweat and tears into this project.
BTW, the Quantum Benders are hand made in the USA by me. After the metal parts come off the CNC machines, I do the rest. I painstakingly hand paint, decal, clear coat, and finish each one. They take ALLOT of time. It's NOT done in some sweat shop over seas.
Originally, I wasn't going to post this, but I thought it might be an informative rant, so there you go.
If you care about magic, or love it just half as much as I do, support the ORIGINAL products. The creators of original work, work very hard. And I do believe they are very generous to share thier ideas, creations, and inventions.

Hi Guys,
Here's yet another warning about cheap copies and knockoffs. I have now seen that some of the knock off QB2s now include a copied DVD of the QB2 DVD.
So don't let this throw you off on making an informed and wise decision when making your purchase. The genuine QB2s are/were available through reputable dealers in the USA and myself. If you see one on EBay, chances are it's a cheap copy and not the real deal. I just want to make you aware of this, as I've had yet another email from another disappointed person that bought one on EBay.
Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Maybe just save your money for the future, for something exciting that would follow the QB2 and it's high quality.
