After all these posts, the only thing I can add is that my favorite is M. Osterlind's humility. With so many wonderful things he created, I just love listening to him, both during the effects and the explanations. No show off, just the facts... He REALLY impressed me with his blindfolded rubik's cube: the man sure works!

When you have that kind of ego-driven attitude, you will fail, as I did. No one will like you and you will become morally bankrupt. It is only when you get back to loving your art, whatever that art form may be, and do everything you can to make it as perfect as you are capable of, that you will begin to get somewhere and people will start liking you. Do not think PERFORMER, think PERFORMANCE. Do that and you will succeed. Richard |

Ok. I have 4 Osterlind favorites. These ideas have made me a much better performer. The first two are a given. The last two may surprise you.
1. BCS (absolutely wonderful!) I'd pay big money to have that original old worn-out deck he was playing around with when he finally "broke through" and discovered the system. Si who? 2. Center tear. Duh. 3. His idea of "making magic real" 4. I forget what he called this...I believe it was from his Essays, but the simple idea being deliberately "quiet". Don't want to give too much away here but if you've never tried it....you should. It will seriously change the way you approach life, not just your mentalism. Chuck |

Wow, Richard nailed it once again.
Favorite material that I use regularly - BCS. It never fails to amaze but it is enhanced by focusing on the presentation instead of the miracle worker. |

Ok! You all know I´m not a easy person, but I´m a big fan of Mr. Osterlind work despite of some fillers in his dvd´s! I really think he´s the Eistein on mentalism field and his BCS is a really masterpiece! And his "Principles of Magic" changed my mind - for better - in many ways!

The BTCS is fantastic, and fully lives up to its sterling reputation. Besides that (and the many effects accomplished by it) I absolutely love his watch routine, simply for it's ability to be performed off the cuff. And then, of course you have the plethora of bending.....
Can anyone pick just one?? Best (Hi Richard!!), Monte |

Like most of you all, I have every video Richard put out; his stuff is KILLER! This man knows mentalism and how to create magical masterpieces. My favorite stuff is Predict-Tac-Toe, Watch routine, and Q & A with the pencil bag (what a great idea). Thanks Richard, You Da Man!

I think this thread should have been entitled, "LEAST favorite Osterlind material". Between BCS, ODDS, Change of Mind, Watch Routines, Final Answer, Thoughtscan, Viewed ESP Prediction, Magazine Test, MM, ETMMM, "Dynamic Mysteries", etc. etc. how can you pick a favorite?? I guess I could say that his NW opener is not up to the standard of his other stuff, but he STILL does it elegantly, and like everything else, makes it accessible to the newcomer. No easy feat with a n-writer. If someone asked me, What's your favorite Beatles song?", off the top of my head, I'd probably say "Yesterday"... but then I'd rememeber "Eleanor Rigby", "Hey Jude", "Back in the USSR", "Michelle", "Day In the Life", "Something", "Long and Winding Road", "Revolution", etc. etc. LEAST favorite Beatles song? Perhaps "Don't Let Me Down". But like my "least favorite" of Osterlind's, it's still better than 99.9% of what's out there.

As another member said, this is as difficult as picking a favorite Beatles song.
Off the top of my head I'd say "Change of Mind." But I reserve the right to change my mind. |
