I am looking for a way to produce drinks (under cover of a skarf or napkin). They would have to be open topped, with a straw in it. So what I am looking for, is perhaps a tight fitting cup holder that attaches to my belt, that I could carry someones drink in and then produce it.
Anyone know of any good methods? I have been searching around and could not find anything that caught my eye. Thanks |

Not an easy one.
Mac King did a version of this in his lecture notes if you can track a set down. Very deceptive method.

Dannydoyle is correct. I applaud the method! It's impromptu as well.

With a straw in it? Why? Can't a straw be put in later?

MagicSanta's correct. I think it's better artistry to produce the drink, then put the straw in. Makes it seem fresher I suppose.

Check David Stone's 'Real Secrets of Magic' or the Flicking Fingers 'Movie' for some great productions. Actually, I think they are the same production.

Does it have to be a real drink? You could go with a sealed glass or a display glass of fake drink.

It is pretty easy to seal a glass and then put it in your jacket then produce it. To keep the top open, and I get the sense you want to walk up to someone and produce a drink so they can drink it...an attempt at smooth, can be done in a controlled setting usually.

We need more info, is this a snifter of high-ball glass? Wine or tumbler? I guess the straw thing narrows it down. A dental dam and rubber bands might help.

Well, I am just looking for something that can attach to my belt that will tightly hold a bottle or glass next to it. David stone has one of these when he produces the wine bottles.

The big difference between a bottle and a drink is this.... the size of the opening and the proximity of the liquid to the open air.
A bottle can be corked or capped. A drink would need a rubber or plastic seal removed just before the reveal. Having the stipulation of a straw further complicates the matter. Try the splash bottle gimmick http://www.hanklee.org/xcart/product.php?productid=3537 http://www.hanklee.org/xcart/product.php?productid=7139 Personally I thought the fake drinks was a great solution...

Alright, I think I figured out the best way to do this.
I can't use a fake drink, jsut because I want it to be the drink they ordered. So I think the best way to do this, would be to just make friends with a water and have him load me with a drink as hes walking by. Would have the best effect, and no risk of spilling it all over the inside of my coat. |

"Glass of Water Production" by Richard Osterlind Volume 4 of Mind Mysteries. An empty bag is brought out. The bag is shown completely empty at the start. Two spectators hold either side of the bag, and with some magic, the performer reaches inside and pulls out an entirely full glass of water!

I use the splash gimmick to produce a glass of water with a fish in it from a napkin. the glass has a lid with a few small holes and is removed and taken away under the napkin.

Another idea is to bring the wrong drinks. Make the drinks disappear in front of them using the fake drinks.

Where you work may have a slower pace, so it may be possible for you to do this with the waiter... but make sure you are certain that's always feasible before you count on it. Best of luck, though

Tkd,
So true. At one bar, I work at I sometimes use the waitresses to ditch the bottle when doing the trick where you cover the bottle with napkins. I wanted to end squeeky clean rather than pocketing the bottle. Works like a champ, but I have to pick my spots when they aren't too busy. Many nights I just can't do that trick. Patrick |
