Misled by Timothy Wenk
Effect: 10/10 A borrowed bill (usually a $100) and pencil are borrowed. The magician folds the bill about a third down, and slams the pencil right thru the bill. The bill is opened and the spectators see that the pencil is thru the bill. The magician folds the bill a third down again – everyone sees the pencil going in and out of the bill. The magician then pulls the pencil down, ripping the bill – everyone can even hear the ripping noise of the bill. But, using the eraser at the end of the pencil, simply by rubbing it on the bill, the bill heals itself. No holes or rips! Now he folds the bill in a “V” shape, putting the pencil inside. He points at the fold, telling everyone to watch that part of the bill.. The audience SEES the pencil inside, but then, it VISUALLY melts right thru the bill! The pencil and the unharmed $100 bill are given out for examination. What you get: A booklet (16 pages) The pencil and the gimmick The ability to perform this miracle The Booklet: 10/10 This goes into a lot of detail how to perform this close-up miracle. It has a lot of illustrations, gives credit to everyone who helped making it, fact that David Copperfield performed this on International Television; again it goes into a lot of detail. The Gimmick: 9/10 It is fragile but if you store it the way it came and how it explains in the booklet, you will have no problem. Just don’t get anyone to smack it with a hammer. The pencil: 10/10 Yellow, says “Dixon Ticonderoga 1388-2 (soft) “ Overall: 10/10 This is considered one of the best close up tricks invented. I like it. It is pretty easy to perform but you should practice it for about a week before performing it. If you do Close-Up magic, I think you will really like this trick.

You can even spray-paint the gimmick and use a Papermate pen in what ever color you choose-- Black, Blue or Red. This is nice as it may look somewhat suspicious bringing out a pencil from your pocket (not the norm of today), let alone worrying if the pencil point would break in your pocket until you are ready to perform this effect. .

PAINTING.... I actually brushed-on Black (ArtCraft) paint (a 50 cent bottle at Wal-mart) and then spray-painted a Shiny Sealer (also sold at Wal-mart). When spraying on the sealer, just "mist" it on... Do NOT put it on too thick. If you do, it will be cakey and sticky.... Just a Gentle "MIST" will do. I haven't run into any problems with it ruining the gimmick, but "once in a blue moon", I needed to touch it up with black paint again. I think you can use any Acrylic paint.... However, do NOT use an Enamel Paint (Way too sticky when dry). .

I recommend this to anyone who really loves magic and wants to amaze others with something you can use everyday in normal situations!

I also bought one of these after seeing Copperfield do it on TV. A few years later I received a couple of boxes of magic from a widow of a magician that I had helped out with some Christmas shows for an American Legion. It had one of the original Mislead tricks. I had been opened by never used. The gimmick seems much more rigid and a little darker in color.

I watched DC on VHS do it over and over and I couldn't figure it out so I ordered it.
I use to do it all-the-time when I was a Magic Bartender. My angles were perfect. GREAT TRICK. My local magic shop demo's and sells them http://www.williamsmagic.com Nez

Can you borrow a pencil and use it instead of the one that comes with Misled?

Phil:
Yes, you can borrow the pencil as long as it is similar in yellow color. It doesn't matter if it's off somewhat since the attention should be focussed on the bill and not the pencil. Never, ever has anyone ever suspected the pencil when I perform it. It is great and the "melting phase" looks as close to pure magic as you can come. It is one of my all time favorites. |

I was so amazed when I was a child and saw david Copperfield doing it. I must have watched it a hundred times.
and finally I found out how it could be done. but with a gimmicked pen. same principle but yeah..gimmicked pen. and I got one of the most unforgetable reactions from it. I was with my mum in a pub and borrowed a bill from an older gentleman. well...just when I did the first penetration (didnt do the second one there) he was so shocked that he slapped me. I restored the bill and he was so glad that he huged me. cheers, macc |

On Luke Dancy's SIN CITY DVD he uses this to sharpen a pencil in his bare hands. Check out his DVD for that and a few other wonderful tricks.
