Does this disc include sleights/tricks not in the Hunter or Wilson set Chris?

I am not sure but there is over an hour of instruction and this dvd is much less than half the cost of the others. The main purpose of this dvd is to introduce newbies to the classic literature that is being overlooked, many of them will not read a book. I have noticed that many people that are new to magic are really lacking the fundamentals to perform good magic, just look at all the youtube magicians out there. If you are looking for an advantage or a reason to buy this instead of the other versions, I would say the teaching is very good and the performances are filmed live in a table hopping setting.

While I certainly think that a basis in basic sleights is important for anyone learning to do magic correctly, the idea that "many of them will not read a book" isn't certainly new or, frankly, all that important: magic, like many hobbies, is pretty hard to learn from a book and much easier to learn by visual demonstration and repetition, which DVDs can provide (anyone tried to learn to play an instrument solely from a book?). DVDs and youtube have provided access to more complex skills than many beginners can handle, but seeing them attempted by young beginners is a mixture of youthful over-reaching, lack of discipline and all-too-ready access. There have always been neophytes doing slights poorly (I don't exempt myself from that group - except, at least, in a public venue ... practice, practice, practice!); youtube has only given a much larger audience to this phenomenon. A DVD that can provide instruction in the basics at a reasonable cost for a young person with an interest in learning the techniques is certainly welcome, and we shouldn't blame youthful exuberance for a preponderance of poor prestidigitation publicly performed.

Jason Greenamyer is a great teacher. He provides great instruction in Trespassing, an effect by Domenic Carbone and produced by Precision Magic. Although this DVD appears to aim at the younger and perhaps folks starting out at card magic, it fills a needed gap in the market, IMHO. Besides, Jason is one entertaining, talented, creative and motivated from Ohio. He seems to possess great aptitude for his craft.

Hahahaha, sorry Christopher. I was typing that from my new ipod, not very good at it yet. Should say "a lot of work into this one". Evolve629 I'm glad you like my teaching style. Trespassing was a fun project to be involved with. The impromptu versions were something I came up with on the fly within 5 minutes. Here in the new future I'm hoping to really release my creative side. As of right now I'm working full-time as a magician while finishing school. It's a lot of work. December is a very busy month for me also. After the holidays a few new projects will have my full attention. Feel free to add me on myspace at http://www.myspace.com/magicofjasongreenamyer
Soon enough I will have a website up http://www.Jasonalanmagic.com (Alan is my middle/stage name, easier for customers to remember me). Once again thank you!!!! Sincerely, Jason Greenamyer |
