I've always enjoyed the "Ring or Coin" to impossible location routines. I especially like the "Lippincott Box". I've been searching around and have discovered that there are a good number of "Boxes" out there. In particular, I have looked at the "Delta Ring Box" by David Powell, Babcock's "Lippincott Coin Box" Porpers "Strong Box" and Quarter-Go Plus" by Viking Manufacturing. To be honest with you, I do not like Porper's "Strong Box" as much as the others I mentioned. There is nothing wrong or bad with it, just seems overkill to me for some reason. I was wondering if there are any other recommendations anyone would like to make besides the ones I mentioned. And yes, I have done an extensive search here at the Café on the subject. Please PM me if anything is to sensitive to be posted here in an open forum.

A number of boxes incorporates m-----s built into the box such as the "Quarter-go Plus" by Viking Manufacturing. I have not been able to find any information or routines that would utilize a m-----t as part of the routine. I'm sure that there is a lot of stuff I'm not aware of when it comes to Lippincott Boxes. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who can help further my education pertaining to these boxes.

Thanks

I remember seeing a very nice box at Tannen's last year for about $45. Give them a call (212-929-4500).

Has anyone had any experience or would like to comment on "Delta Ring Box" by David Powell. It looks very rich and rightfully so at $125.00 each. Would like to hear anyone thoughts on this item.

Thanks

Tannen's has a really nice in heavy gauge black aluminum for $150.00 here http://www.tannens.com/shop/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=6757

I received this last night and must say that this is perhaps the final answer in Quarter-Go boxes. About the same precision and quality as Joe Porper's Strong Box but with the same dimensions as any standard box made in wood i.e. Viking, Babcock, etc. Extremely practical and clearly made to last a lifetime. A must for any close-up worker and/or collector. Comes highly recommended! This was money well spent and worth every penny! The heavy gauge annodized aluminum give the box a very solid feel. Ornate in appearance. The picture on the site does the box no justice.

Richard,
On the Viking website you give their Lippincott box a good review - "... prehaps the finest Quarter Go/Lippincott box ever seen. The craftmanship is unrivaled and the precision is scary ..."

So which do you consider best, the Viking box or the Tannen's box?

To me, this is almost like comparing apples to oranges as the steel versions are in an entirely different league. At the time I reviewed the Viking version, I never knew the Tannen's box even existed much less a box in a material other than wood. At this point, I'd have to say the Tannen's version has no rival (aside from perhaps Porper's Strong Box but the size and dimensions are far different). Sure, it's more expensive but in this case you get what you pay for. Every pennys worth.

Can the box from Tannon's withstand close examination?

One more question! Is it felt lined? Does it have "noise" issues like I've read about the Strongbox?

NOISE is not a factor with Gaetan Bloom's routine with the Porper Strong Box. Matter of fact he makes a lot of noise with his way. Hard to beat and super funny. His routine is included with the box.

Making a lot of racket to cover up the noise in loading the box is not that great of a solution. (my humble opinion)

I must agree with Pete.
I have the Porper Strong Box.
The Gaten Bloom's routine is worth the price alone.
Pete is correct about the routine. The noise is necessary to success of the ending.
One of my best buys.

Yes, I've done it quite a few times.
I made a few changes with the handling, and also bought a small wooden chest to to hold the paper bag.
Doug, this a great routine and quite funny.

Nonvpro, we are currently in the process of bringing back the Tabman Rosewood Lippincott box with that added something built into the box. It will come with a small booklet with basic routines and ideas. If anyone would like to contribute ideas or routines for the book, and we use them, you will get full credit for it and also receive the box and the book for your troubles.

I will give it a go. The Porper Box should arrive here sometime this week.

I have been playing with the Quarter Go PLUS by Viking and I am very impressed. The only negatives were the quality of the lock and the felt on the inside of the box. I can see the outline of the mag***t. The lock is an easy replacement. I will put some red velvet on the inside bottom.

Overall I would recommend the Quarter Go box by Viking due to its ingenious load and the quality of the wood. One of the routines supplied can put your "rattle box" gimmick to good use!

Take care,

I'd be interested in learning if this box would be big enough to hold 3X5 or larger sheets of paper/billets?

The box looks like something that I could use for a prediection effect.

Just received my Strong Box today. Sad to say, I'm not too impressed with the exterior quality of the box. The finish had a lot of scratches that made it look like I bought it second hand. (bought it retail though) I will say that the box does FEEL high quality and is visually impressive. It just looks a little scuffed up..

The loading of the box is clever and I like how you can act like you're "pulling" on the lock to make sure it is secure. The gaff holds very well.

But, the box is too noisy when loading coins, rings, cards, well anything. I don't care for Bloom's routine even though it covers up the noise nicely.

So,I will just have to do the loading very quickly and bring it out so laymen believe the noise came from the padlock swinging.

Also, the box is VERY small. I knew this going in but looking at it up close is even smaller than I imagined. I can barely fit 3 Morgan's and a [ inside with a small bag. I had to take my coins out of their JOL holder and put them in a thinner bag so they would fit.

Though, the box will comfortably load a mercury folded playing card, and ring. Just will make noise.

I recommend Viking's box for the money because it has an easier load and beautiful wood finish at a much lower price.

I recommend the Strong Box if you're a collector and/or like the looks of it and have money to blow.

Best,

Doug L.

If you can find one, I recommend the Clarence Miller Lippincott Box. The gimmick is unlike anything I've ever seen. Unfortunately, Mr. Miller made less than 25 of these incredibly crafted boxes (he confirmed that to me by phone last week). Each one is signed, numbered, and dated. I am lucky to have #11 It would be awesome if any craftsmen would be willing to recreate Mr. Miller's extremely unique construction of his box (hint, hint to George Robinson of Viking!)
